Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), Income Support


Description
Provides financial assistance and other benefits to eligible people with disabilities who are in financial need to pay for living expenses, like food and housing.
Health benefits including:
  • prescription drugs
  • dental care
  • vision care
  • medical supplies, including diabetic and surgical supplies
  • transportation to medical treatment
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding nutritional allowance
Extended Health Benefit may be available to clients who are no longer eligible for ODSP Income Support.
Disability-related benefits include:
  • assistive devices including mobility devices
  • vision and hearing aids
  • prosthetics
  • batteries for mobility devices and hearing aids
  • guide dogs
  • special diet allowance
Housing Stabilization Fund helps with rent and energy arrears, rent deposit and essential furniture.

Eligibility
Must be an Ontario resident, in financial need and meet the program's definition of a person with a disability, or be a member of a Prescribed Class. If under 18, you can start the application process up to six months before your 18th birthday.

Application Process
Apply online, by phone, or in person at a local ODSP office by booking an appointment. The meeting is Part One of the application process and will determine eligibility for income support. Part two of the application determines disability status and is completed through the Disability Adjudication Unit. This process will be explained during the Part One application.
