Description
Helps people who are in financial need.

Provides financial assistance, including:
  • income support to help with the costs of basic needs, like food, clothing and shelter.
  • health benefits for clients and their families
Emergency assistance is also available to people who are in a crisis or an emergency situation (e.g. people who have lost their homes, are leaving an abusive relationship and/or are worried about their safety).
Eligibility
To be eligible for Ontario Works you must:
  • live in Ontario
  • be in financial need (your household doesn't have sufficient financial resources to meet basic living expenses)
  • be willing to make reasonable efforts to find, prepare for and keep a job (unless you have specific circumstances that temporarily prevent you from doing so, such as an illness or caregiving responsibilities)


Other adult members of your household must also agree to participate in employment assistance activities

Not all addresses in these postal codes fall within the District of Muskoka, but when you call intake, they will use GPS information to check and if not, will direct you towards either Simcoe or Parry Sound as appropriate.

Documents Required
The following information for all members of the household is required for the first stage of the application (also available on the website under Ontario Works How to Apply):
  • date of birth
  • legal registered name
  • social insurance numbers
  • health card numbers
  • immigration documents, if you were not born in Canada
  • sources of income such as earnings, CPP, EI, WSIB, child and spousal support payments, etc.
  • bank account information
  • asset details including RRSPs, vehicles, properties, life insurance
  • accommodation costs including mortgage, taxes, rent, heat, hydro, insurance, water, etc., as well as your landlord's name and phone number
  • address history for the past 12 months
  • employment history for the past 12 months
