- Description
- Ensures that accused individuals who are entitled to pre-trial release are not held in custody because of a lack of financial resources or community connections
- Interviews the accused individual to gather information so the courts can determine whether or not to release the individual from custody
- Verifies information provided by the accused to enable pre-trial release
- Determines the availability of a surety or suitability for supervision under the Bail Verification and Supervision Program
- Directs individuals to the Elizabeth Fry Society for intake into the program
- Eligibility
- Men and women 16 years of age and older who have been accused of a criminal offence and who are:
- Appealing a bail decision which has resulted in detention
- Awaiting initial bail proceedings
- In custody and unable to meet their surety or cash bail
- Remanded for show cause hearing
- Appealing a bail decision which has resulted in detention
