  • Provides short term financial assistance to individuals and families in need
  • Offers Extended Health Benefits to qualifying individuals
  • Provides support and assistance to program participants in meeting their participation responsibilities
  • Provides information to recipients about participation requirements including seeking employment, basic education, volunteer work, or self employment
Participants can access a variety of programs and support services including but not limited to:
  • Child Care
  • Clothing Needs
  • Community Placement Program
  • Discretionary Benefits
  • Drug Benefits
  • Employment Resource Centre
  • Employment Start-up Costs
  • Enhanced Employment Placement Program
  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Learning, Earning and Parenting
  • Pay-Direct to Landlord
  • Special Diets Allowance
  • Transportation

Eligibility
Individuals must:
  • be 16 years of age and older
  • a resident of Ontario
  • be in immediate financial need to help pay for food and housing costs
  • be willing to take part in activities that will help find employment
  • sign a Participation Agreement
Amount of financial assistance provided is determined by various factors including:
  • Assets
  • Family size
  • Housing costs
  • Income
Extended Health Benefits Individuals and families who:
  • were eligible for Ontario Works in the previous months, or
  • are no longer eligible for Ontario Works because they received a payment for loss of income under the 1986-1990 Hepatitis C Settlement Agreement

Documents Required
The following documentation for each family member is required to complete application:
  • Copy of Canada Child Tax Benefit statement (for children under 18 years of age)
  • Copy of mortgage or rental agreement and accommodation costs such as utilities and insurance
  • Health card
  • Information about assets owned, such as a Registered Retirement Savings Plan, personal vehicles, etc
  • Information about other income and money, such as a pension
  • Proof of identity, such as birth certificate
  • Proof of immigration status, if required
  • Proof of Social Insurance Number
  • Recent bank statement for all bank accounts
  • Vehicle ownership, if applicable
  • Record of Employment and/or most recent pay stubs
  • Notice of Assessment
