Description
Specialized services to people who are physically unable to use regular transit vehicles
  • using fully accessible buses
  • trips are booked in advance and scheduled on a first-come first-served basis
Information required when booking
  • date of trip
  • location and time of pick-up and drop-off
  • number of other people travelling, such as a support person or companion(s)
  • any mobility devices that will be brought onto the vehicle
Pick-up times may change by 15 minutes before or five minutes after the scheduled pick-up time

When a scheduled pick-up time changes outside of the 20-minute pick-up window, DRT will contact and advise customers by phone at least two hours before the trip

Trip cancellations must be made four or more hours prior to trip
Eligibility
Person with a disability that prevents them from using conventional transit service for all or part of a trip
Could be due to a visual, sensory, cognitive or physical disability, and could be either short-term or long-term
One person may accompany a client - notify the dispatcher to confirm available space

Complete Eligibility Application Form Note: portions of form to be completed by Health Care Professional https://www.durhamregiontransit.com/en/routes-and-schedules/resources/Specialized-Services/Specialized-Services-Application2.pdf and send by mail to 110 Westney Rd S, Ajax ON L1S 2C8 or fax
Applications reviewed within 14 days of receiving completed application, DRT will confirm eligibility by mail
Applicants are required to attend an in-person interview and/or assessment unless otherwise advised
