School Based Nutrition Programs
- Description
- A region-wide initiative that offers support and co-ordination for nutrition programs in both elementary and secondary schools. Offers support to student nutrition programs through provincial grants and local fundraising efforts. Works together with site-based volunteers to meet the needs of student nutrition programs in each community.
By offering a balanced meal, a safe and stimulating environment, and social and emotional support to children, Niagara Nutrition Partners provides several benefits.- improves attendance and punctuality
- increases understanding of how healthy eating habits affect energy levels
- improves behavior and increases concentration, leading to greater achievement
- improves social skills and confidence to interact with other children and adults
- promotes nutritionally complete programs that follow the student nutrition guidelines, established by the Ministry of Children Community and Social Services for breakfast, lunch, and snack.
