School Based Nutrition Programs


Description
A region-wide initiative that offers support and co-ordination for nutrition programs in both elementary and secondary schools. Offers support to student nutrition programs through provincial grants and local fundraising efforts. Works together with site-based volunteers to meet the needs of student nutrition programs in each community.

By offering a balanced meal, a safe and stimulating environment, and social and emotional support to children, Niagara Nutrition Partners provides several benefits.

  • increases understanding of how healthy eating habits affect energy levels
  • improves behavior and increases concentration, leading to greater achievement
  • improves social skills and confidence to interact with other children and adults
  • promotes nutritionally complete programs that follow the student nutrition guidelines, established by the Ministry of Children Community and Social Services for breakfast, lunch, and snack.
Eligibility
Students in both elementary and secondary schools from 4 to 21 years old
