Brock Learning Lab

Home Agency Service

Description
Provides for the learning needs of K-12 learners by offering individualized, one-on-one assessment and support in the areas of literacy and numeracy through interactive activities and technology.

To improve reading and writing skills, children and adolescents attend the Literacy Support Program for personalized one-on-one tutoring once or twice a week. Programming is based on formal diagnostic assessments. Each client works with a literacy tutor, who is typically a senior undergraduate or graduate student specializing in education and supervised by the Program Coordinator, Course Instructor, and Director. Tutors are current or past students of the Reading and Literacy Development course where they learn about the reading process and effective reading instruction. Tutors use a variety of research-based teaching procedures to help their clients improve their reading and writing skills.

The Learning Lab also provides personalized one-on-one numeracy support to children and adolescents. Programming based on curriculum-based assessment. Each client works with a numeracy tutor once or twice a week. Tutors are typically a senior undergraduate or graduate student specializing in education and supervised by the Program Coordinator and Director.

The Brock University Learning Lab (formerly Reading Clinic) is in partnership with the Centre for Multiliteracies.
