- Customary Care (Mikinaak Model)
- Refers to the traditional practice of placing/raising a child outside the home but within the First Nation community
- All members of the family, extended family, relatives and community are involved with planning for the child but Dilico maintains the responsibility to care for the child
- Provides services for children who cannot be cared for in their home but are not in the care of Dilico
- Refers to the full-time care and nurturing of a child by a relative, extended family member, a member of the child's community or another adult with whom the child has a significant relationship
- The Kinship Service caregiver works collaboratively with Dilico staff to develop and carry out plans of service for the child
- Comments
- Temporary Care Agreement: The child is placed in the care of the Children's Aid Society on a voluntary basis by the caregiver -- Society Wardship: The child is court ordered into the temporary care of the Children's Aid Society -- Crown Wardship: The child is made a permanent ward of the Children's Aid Society and could be placed for adoption

- First Nations communities already involved with Dilico Child Welfare services by having stated that Dilico is to care for the child in question on its behalf
