  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
  • Maintains local business directory
  • Responsible for development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members
Economic initiatives Deer Lake First Nation is involved with include:
  • Advisory capacity for Northern Store
  • Assistance and business advice for private businesses
  • Participant in Solar Panel project for Deer Lake School, completed in Apr 2014
  • A 490-kilowatt hydro generating station built in 1998
  • A signed business partnership (2014) with North Star Air Ltd along with its affiliate Cargo North
  • In Oct 2016, Frontier Lithium signed Exploration Agreements with Deer Lake First Nation and Sandy Lake First Nation regarding Frontier's mineral exploration activities on its PAK Lithium Project in the Red Lake Mining District
  • Ongoing proposal for the creation/operation of a fish hatchery in the community
