Description
  • Provides educational services and supports to elementary and secondary school students
  • Administers David Meekis Memorial School
  • Provides financial assistance with board and related costs for students who choose to attend high school out of community
Keewaytinook Internet High School (KiHS)
  • Uses the Internet as a mode of delivery to offer accredited secondary school courses in a classroom setting for individuals wishing to obtain a high school diploma in their home community
Distance Education
  • Administers on-reserve educational instruction and academic upgrading through Wahsa Distance Education by providing classroom instruction from Sioux Lookout via Wawatay Radio to students from Grades 9-12
Post Secondary Program (PSP)
  • Provides financial assistance and academic and social counseling support throughout the school year to post secondary students both on and off the reserve through the Northern Nishnawbe Education Council (NNEC)
  • Provides assistance for applying/filling out application forms for colleges and universities

Eligibility
  • Members of Deer Lake First Nation 4 years of age and older
  • All school aged children and youth living on reserve

Distance Education and Keewaytinook Internet High School
  • On-reserve individuals wishing to obtain a high school diploma

Post Secondary Program
  • All Band members regardless of residency are eligible to apply for assistance if attending a post-secondary institution
Application Process
Post Secondary Program
  • Applications for assistance available on Northern Nishnawbe Education Council website or at office
  • Deadline to apply for assistance for fall start date is May 15th; January start date is Oct 15th; spring and summer start dates is Feb 15th
For financial assistance applicant required to provide:
  • Photocopy of recent status card
  • Completed post-secondary application package issued by Northern Nishnawbe Education Council (NNEC)
  • Letter of acceptance from post-secondary institution
  • Transcripts from high school and any previous academic institutions
  • Detailed letter of intent with program information
  • Copy of voided cheque or bank information
  • Signed student contract
