Functions as the governing office for the community; oversees all community programs, services and facilities

Activities and services for community members also include but are not limited to the following:
  • Ontario First Nation Policing arrangements provided by Anishnawbek Police Service (APS)-Dokis Detachment
  • Child & Family Services provided by Nog-da-win-da-win Family & Community Services
  • Serviced by air through Sudbury (NW of community) or North Bay (NE of community) airports, both approximately 120 km from community
  • Offers many private and Band-owned enterprises including construction, a marina operation, catering services, restaurants, transportation, tourism and forestry
  • Owns and operates the Dokis Logging Co which has a crown allocation of 1.8% of the Nipissing Forest and supplies four mills in the area
  • Partnership with Hydro Mega in the construction and operation of a two-turbine run-of-the-river hydro project on French River
  • Offers an Elders Residence and support services for community seniors
  • Provides a 100-year old Dokis Corpus Christi Parish Community Church still in use for community services, weddings and funerals
  • Operates Dokis Fish Hatchery and annually restocks French River with pickerel
  • Manages the Riverview Cottage lot rentals located on French River near the community
  • Publishes a monthly newsletter, the Migisi Monthly Messenger, which is delivered door-to-door to community members
  • Provides a multi-purpose outdoor covered rink known as The Robert Restoule Memorial Facility and a ball field for recreational activities
  • Offers an Elders Residence and support services for community seniors
  • Installed a high-speed Internet service tower in early 2009
  • Offers the Dokis First Nation Library
  • Administers education services and Dokis School under the Education Authority
  • Operates a community Food Bank
  • Provides health care, a walk-in clinic and health programs at Dokis Health Centre
  • Serviced by a Volunteer Fire Department
Dokis Hiking Trails
  • Provides 3 scenic hiking trails: Tikibi Trail (2.2 km), Chaudiere Trail (2.28 km) and Papase Trail (8.8 km) for hikers to view rock formations, caves, waterfalls and nature
  • Offers the trails for members of the public to use at a minimal cost
Chief and 5 Band Council members elected every 2 years under the Indian Act Electoral system; next election Nov 2022

  • Trails are free to use for Band and community members
  • Permits are required for members of public; available at Band Office, Riverview Cottages, Dokis Marina and Pine Cove Lodge for minimal fee
