Nutrition Workshops and Community Gardening

The ACCESS Nutrition Workshops

• introduces participants to simple, healthy and economical recipes to develop new skills; to handle and store food safely; and to expand nutritional knowledge.
• provides the food, the recipe and the instruction
• Participants leave with a healthy meal for their families, healthy substitutions ideas, knowledge about health and safety in the kitchen; and new social networks

The ACCESS Community Garden

• helps reduce food insecurity and promotes better nutrition and health
• promotes exercise, neighbourhood beautification, social interaction, contact with nature, better nutrition and health, stress reduction, stronger communities, increased green space, cultural and youth opportunities.

Gardens and Kitchens

• an ideal place for families, agencies and schools to work alongside one another, taste new foods and learn food safety

COVID-19 - Providing up-to-date service information for emergency food providers and grocery and meal delivery services.

Provides information on events, organizations and happenings related to food in Chatham-Kent. Information food skills opportunities, community gardens, student nutrition programs, CK Food Strategy and more can be found here. Additionally the CK Meal Calendar and Food Resource can be found on this website as well as an up to date listing on all food banks, soup kitchens, food voucher programs and other community food resources.

Maintains park areas in town and educating schools on gardening.

The horticultural society aim is to increase interest in horticulture by encouraging private and public gardening, and by holding meetings, exhibits, plant sales and field trips.

Money is donated to various groups to assist in the beautification of Sarnia and area. A newsletter is emailed to all members three times a year.

Learn How to Garden Workshop - learn how grow vegetables * garden plots available

Good Food Box - bulk buying program offering monthly baskets of healthy, affordable produce to support more fruit and vegetables in the diet

Cooking Kids - Monthly cooking program for children aged 7-9 years * a make-and-take meal to share with family

At the Kitchen Table - Monthly program for youth aged 10-12 years where they share a homemade meal and discuss various topics

Better Bites - Seasonal food demonstration, taste test and discussion by Diabetes team

Craving Change - Small group program for adults designed to help understand the reasons why we eat and provide strategies for improving problematic eating behaviours * offered 1-2 times per year

Adult Baking Club - Teaches young adults how to bake * supported by Coordinator of Community Support Service and Program Assistant

Kitchen Kids - Monthly cooking program for parents with children ages 2 1/2 to 6 years * children prepare and try food while parents learn tips for including children in the kitchen

Krazy Kitchen - Monthly program for adults to cook, taste and bring home samples to share * children's programming available

Mens Cooking - Cooking lessons and health education program for men and an opportunity to share recipes

Community Cupboard - Perishable food, non-perishable food items and toiletries available to any women and their families *supported by donations and community garden

Community Garden - addresses food security and creates a healing space * organized and maintained by volunteers

Holiday Hamper Program - Program supports women and their families during the holiday time * hampers to be filled with items on the family's wish list and grocery store gift cards also recommended * call 519-246-1526 or email info@wrrcsa.org for more information

Vouchers for clothing and household items available at no cost for women accessing other services

Coordinates the registration and maintenance of a community garden located on land provided by Westview Baptist Church, where people and organizations rent garden plots and grow vegetables, fruits and herbs of their choice

Gardening and cooking workshops for the community * focuses on skill development and using whole foods

Community collaborator and facilitator of food related projects that promote community gardening sustainability and self-sufficiency * advice and assistance regarding the issue of food security * arranges programs including community gardens, meal planning, and healthy eating advice
