Volunteer snow removal program

• offers free sidewalk snow removal for seniors and those with a physical disability
• matches volunteers from the community with those requiring the service
• volunteers not contacted until police clearance received
• residents are not required to reapply yearly (list is cumulative)

Program helps adults who want to improve their ASL, reading, writing and numeracy skills.

Professional support for deaf and hard-of-hearing people living with mental health issues, addiction, relationship problems, stress, abuse, and other serious challenges.

Counsellors provide guidance, advocacy, support and counselling to Deaf and hard of hearing individuals who need assistance managing everyday life events such as completing government forms, navigating systems, and coping with hearing loss.

Services include:

• complete forms and applications (e.g. housing applications)
• renew or replace a driver's license, health card, or passport
• navigate through government services such as:
  • Employment Insurance (EI)
  • Ontario Works (OW)
  • Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
  • Citizenship and Immigration
  • Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)
• provide information and assistance in advocating for rights
• attend meetings where additional support is needed
• provide assessments and recommendations for communication devices
• referrals to other services as required

Hearing care counsellors help to improve communication with family, friends, and service providers so those with hearing loss can stay involved in social activities and remain safe and independent at home, including:

• counselling and education related to coping with hearing loss for client, family and other caregivers
• understanding hearing loss
• use, care, and maintenance of hearing aids and other listening systems
• preparing for and managing difficult listening situations
• selecting specialized communication equipment such as telephones, alarm clocks and television accessories
• referrals to other community services

Specialists provide advice and communication solutions to help open the lines of communication and help break down barriers. Services include the following (click on links):

Assistance to find a job and succeed by working with employees and employers to put the right supports in place.

Day program providing productive and engaging activity to adult individuals with physical disabilities who may otherwise remain isolated.

Assists children and youth with severe speech or language problems and/or difficulty holding a pen or pencil and helps them find alternative ways to communicate.

Home Help Program:

The Home Help program is designed to help isolated seniors, seniors recovering from surgery, frail seniors and those persons with permanent physical disabilities, who do not have access to assistance, remain safely in their home by providing light housekeeping services

Assistance includes:

• light housekeeping which could include floor mopping, dishes, vacuuming and dusting
• laundry services which could also include folding and putting away
• light bathroom and kitchen clean-up
• making beds could include changing linens
• grocery shopping
