• encourages employers to re-employ those who are unemployed (no longer linked with EI eligibility)

Training and certification to become a professional language interpreter.

Courses include:

• spoken language interpretation
• consecutive interpreting
• note-taking
• sight translation
• simultaneous interpreting
• setting specific interpreting with a focus on the language interpretation needs of local agencies and community services in Windsor and Essex County
• information sessions will be held at the Multicultural Council, call for dates and times

Trains Labour Community Advocates (LCA) to act as a resource to union members and to the Local union itself, to become a link between the workplace and community especially supporting workers facing workplace, family or personal challenges

• participants are trained to act as workplace peer to peer helpers

• enhances communication and advocacy skills
• increases knowledge around issues workers may face such a substance abuse, financial issues, and bereavement
• promotes workplace wellness initiatives

Promotes a local approach to the planning and delivery of employment and training services by connecting employers, different levels of government, service providers and trainers

Activities for socialization, integration, independent living, and self-help skills

• Program activities are both on-site and in the community.
• An individual plan is developed by Roots 2 Wings along with the person and their family/caregiver.

Friendship Club

• Friendship Club offers caregivers a break while their loved ones enjoy socializing with peers attending open-mics, karaoke, games, hobbies, and dance nights.
• For ages 13+ to gain and maintain friendships while engaging in meaningful activities.

Volunteers:

R2W is always looking for extra help to interact and form friendships with our clients.

Co-op Placements:

• R2W co-operates with surrounding high school and post secondary schools to provide experience to students in the field of disabilities.

Contributions:

R2W accepts donations of supplies for games, crafts, activities, and cleaning/hygiene.

Provides opportunity for adults with a disability to participate and give back to the community through community navigation and community connections

Group activities for newly arrived immigrants and refugees of all ages to help orient them to their new community and establish social and professional networks. Trained and experienced volunteer mentors assist, with focus on citizenship and civic engagement or skills and career development.

Trains students for careers in agricultural service industries as well as primary production. Diploma courses offered include: Agriculture; Horticulture, Veterinary Technology; Equine Care and Management and Environmental Management. Certificate program in Veterinary Office Administration. Apprenticeship in Dairy Herdsperson.

Assists people in finding employment through resources and information, employment counselling, employment workshops and job placements

Newcomer Settlement Program - Newcomer information and referral services

Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) - Provides temporary accommodations at Jeremiah's House Reception Centre with meals and 24-hour supervision for up to 15 days including orientation and training on household facilities and fire evacuation plans * needs assessment, including emergency needs * life skills support including orientation in clients' language on variety of topics, such as federal and provincial programs and services, health care issues, managing money, education system, family life, employment referrals to community services * assistance with searching for, viewing, selecting, and moving into permanent accommodations

Settlement Workers in Schools Program (SWIS) - Settlement workers in schools work with newcomer parents and their children to adapt to the Canadian educational system * provides newcomers and their families with information and referral on settlement needs, learning English, job seeking, housing, adult education

Volunteer-based program which provides support for newcomers to Canada * assists youth and adult clients with adjusting to life in Canada * helps to establish professional and social networks

One-on-one and facilitated group activities * match program that connects newcomers with Canadian volunteers to learn Canadian values and traditions, learn about community resources and practice speaking English * conversation circles to practice English and make social connections

Youth Program - supports newcomer youth to adapt, integrate and overcome barriers associated with transition to a new country * provides volunteer opportunities, physical activities, social events, educational workshops and clubs
