An independent, charitable, home building organization dedicated to the elimination of poverty housing by building homes in partnership with families in need. Habitat Niagara builds simple, decent, and affordable houses and provides interest-free mortgages to families needing adequate shelter, who would otherwise not be able to purchase their own home. The Habitat program is about homeownership and providing a long-term solution designed to break the poverty cycle. Building costs are kept low by the use of volunteer labour and the donation of funds and building materials.

Habitat for Humanity Niagara is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canada.

Offers down payment assistance for low to moderate-income residents who rent in the Niagara Region and want to buy a home.

Dufferin County Homeownership Program is designed to provide moderate income households, with an interest free down payment assistance loan/second mortgage to help purchase a home.

There are no monthly mortgage payments for the second mortgage. Repayment of the second mortgage is required when the property is sold.

Rent-geared-to-Income (RGI) Subsidy - Social Housing
The County of Wellington supports the delivery of subsidized housing in units where rent is set at no more than 30 per cent of a household's income. Applicant households must apply to the County and meet eligibility criteria.

Rent Supplement Subsidy
Rent Supplement Program allows individuals and families to receive a geared-to-income rent supplement for a unit in the private market. Applicant households must apply to the County and meet eligibility criteria.

Affordable Housing
Affordable housing, sets rent at less than market levels, can be found in the City of Guelph and Wellington County. All prospective households must apply to the provider directly and meet eligible criteria.

Homeownership
The County of Wellington administers two homeownership program:

1. Wellington Affordable Homeownership Down Payment Loan Fund, and
2. Ontario Renovates

The Affordable Homeownership Program and Ontario Renovates are limited funding program, please review program eligibility.

Funding to Prevent Eviction
The County of Wellington administers funding for the Housing Stability Program, the Rent Bank, Emergency Energy Fund (EEF), and Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP).

• Life Lease project provides an opportunity to purchase an interest in the project and to share in any appreciated value of the building and property
• actual ownership and title to the Life Lease development remains in the name of the sponsoring organization which provides property management and maintenance services
