Gambling Education and Prevention

Offers education and training sessions for the general public, schools, families and allied professionals to raise awareness through:

Individual Counselling (Trauma informed)

• Allows people to work towards negotiated goals and can address a variety of issues related to problem gambling
• Offers a specialized focus including stress management, spirituality, grief and loss or coping with trauma
• Provide discharge planning and referrals as needed

Residential Treatment Program

Provides an extended stay in a safe environment that:

• Provides opportunity to focus on developing healthier lifestyle habits
• Provides opportunity to join with other people who share similar experiences and challenges
• Examines values, beliefs and feelings in order to be able to respond differently to urges and temptations
• Provides opportunities to learn how to embrace new ways of behaving that promotes positive change

Gambling Information and Treatment Group (GIT)

• Offers an educational group open to anyone interested in understanding more about gambling and related issues

Youth in Transition (YIT) Program

Offers specialized programs for youth and young adults who are bridging the gap between adolescence and adulthood including:

• Harm reduction group
• Information, education and skill building activities
• Alternative strategies to problem gambling

Family Program

• Offers support for partners and family members because they often experience stress, anxiety and depression as they focus on the person with the addiction and so may neglect their own needs
• Offers individual or couples counselling which can include children and parents
• Provides group sessions, allowing an opportunity to connect with other people who are struggling with the impact of addiction on their families and relationships

Other Behavioural Addictions
Provides support for managing:

• Problematic gaming (video game addiction)
• Internet/online overuse
• Shopping/overspending
• Problematic sexual behaviour (pornography or sex addiction/hypersexuality)

Provides services to educate and empower clients to make informed decisions about drug and alcohol use or gambling

Residential Treatment Program

• Provides a five-week intensive substance abuse treatment program with the option of flexible length of stay for youth requiring further support
• Through a strength-based philosophy, incorporates skills from dialectical-behavioural therapy (DBT) with a focus on substance use education, helping youth change harmful behaviours through skill acquisition, and building on their existing strengths and capacities
• Incorporates a harm reduction model which works to build a youth's capacity to reduce the harms and life interfering behaviours associated with substance use
• A holistic approach is woven through the program in order to help strengthen the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual capacities of a person
• Includes group therapy, education sessions, life skills development, leisure and recreation opportunities, an introduction to self-help groups, Aboriginal spiritual programming, and relapse prevention work
• Multi-disciplinary team consists of addiction counsellors, youth workers, family counsellor, therapeutic recreationist, gambling counsellor, medical supports, teacher, and a spiritual advisor
• Resource people from the community supplement the program, including mental health professionals, and Aboriginal liaisons

Community Based Services

Coordinates services with Thunder Bay Integrated Youth Programs (UTURN) to provide the following:

• Education and screening
• Drug and alcohol assessment
• Brief individual counselling
• Youth gambling
• Early intervention program
• Early prevention program
• Community presentations
• Continuing care program

RAAM clinics are offering in-person, telephone and video appointments. Masks required for in-person service.

Allows individuals experiencing problematic substance use disorders to receive counselling, appropriate addiction medications, and connections to community treatment programs

Services available include:

• Assessment of problematic substance use concerns and review of treatment options
• Brief intervention counseling and psychotherapy
• Management of acute alcohol and opioid withdrawal
• Outpatient tapering for patients on opioids or benzodiazepines
• Medication-assisted treatment for problematic alcohol and cannabis use, and opioid use disorders
• Education on overdose prevention and use of naloxone
• Referral to community supports and treatment programs

Note: This program is paused at this time due to Covid but supports are still available

• Offered at Hope Place, the HOPE for Mothers group offers support for mothers looking to make change in their drug or alcohol use
• Individual and group support for women who are pregnant or parenting and struggling with substance use, mental health, abuse, and child protection issues
• Teaches parenting skills and healthy lifestyle choices, self-care and well-being, relapse prevention and life skills

Operates as part of an integrated mental health and addiction system to help uncover the causes and emotional needs behind addictive behaviour

• Focus is on preventing the development of health issues including diabetes, obesity and heart disease

• Sports activities, physical fitness and recreational activities
• Helping individuals in creating a personalized fitness program and supervision while participants perform the program
• Healthy nutrition education
• Smoking cessation/smoke-free living education and programs
• Youth leadership promotion

• Offers the Stop Smoking with FHT's cessation program to assist individuals in quitting tobacco use
• Conducts initial assessment to determine the patient's smoking habits and health profile to provide the appropriate treatment
• Provides self-management support and strategies
• Assists patients released from hospital to remain smoke-free after discharge

Offers the following support and services:

• Education and information
• Counselling
• Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) that can include patch, lozenges, gum and inhalers
• Prescriptions for Champix or Zyban (through FHT Pharmacist)

COVID-19 Response
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, visiting days have been postponed until further notice. Families are encouraged to communicate via technology. Public access is limited to critical services only. Speak with admission department for information and process changes to admissions and services.

Regular Service
Offers help to men and women within the unionized construction trades Industry and their immediate family who have issues of any kind due to a dependence with alcohol and/or drugs.

Programs range from long term placement, residential treatment and post treatment counselling.

Family members may call the help line anytime for support.

Currently engaged with the Ministry of Labour Training and Skills Development Fund (SDF) for a research project in addition to the services provided to the construction industry. But does not offer training or employment opportunities outside of hiring opportunities for the agency.

An addiction treatment centre providing high quality community-based treatment to substance dependent persons and families in Southwestern Ontario.

Regional Treatment Centre provides:

Programs offered:

19 Day Residential Chemically Dependent Program
Highly structured program includes individual counseling, videos, discussions, lectures and recreation, a six month Recovery Support program follows residential treatment. The program uses a variety of methods to help clients gain an understanding of addiction as a primary illness. Help in recognizing the thinking patterns that have established the need for substances. Make a commitment towards accepting personal responsibility for maintaining abstinence in recovery. Life Skills help for a renewed value system.

7 Day Residential Co dependency Program
Open to men and women who feel their life has been affected by someone else's drinking or drug abuse. Program is offered bi-weekly. A 6 month Recovery Support program follows treatment.

Weekend Family Program
For family members of clients presently in the residential addiction program. The family programs provides information on substance abuse and how it affects the family members (through lectures, group discussions and videos. Guidance is given on changes individuals can make to help them deal with the affects of substance abuse on them, and their subsequent reaction to life situations. Due to Covid-19 this program is not running for family members at this time

Stage Two Relapse Prevention Program
A 6 day Residential program is offered 6 months or longer after attending residential addiction treatment

The Addiction Assistance Service
Operates 24 hrs a day and will aid with finding support for a persons immediate addiction problems from the community services available such as:

• Full withdrawal from substance abuse at the Windsor or London Withdrawal Management Centres
• Counselling for addiction problems.

NEW: Virtual Day Program
An outpatient virtual addiction treatment program for those looking for flexible care or those not suited to or unable to attend residential treatment. The program is open to men and women 16 years of age and older.

Community out-patient program for people struggling with addiction. Individual, family and group counselling available.

Programs include:

Workshops and support groups: for adult family members and friends affected by addiction (substance use an process addiction)

Youth Services: at all high schools in Guelph and Wellington County and at three schools in Dufferin County; services may be accessed through the Guidance department

Problem Gambling / Process Addiction Program: individual counselling, education groups, support groups and public education events for people and/or families affected by gambling

Gambling Craving Helpline: recorded message that provides information and steps to help the caller cope with urges and cravings

• Programs are part of Homewood Regional Services which includes Home and Community Care Waterloo Wellington (formerly WWLHIN) -funded Mental Health programming.
