Structured program sessions offered in the fall, winter and spring to educate parents throughout the community at various locations and times (pending enrollment). Childcare available for day programs only.

Programs available include:

• Raising a Digital Generation - four-week program with detailed information regarding todays' digital generation and the challenges children and youth face. Includes information on social media, online safety and cyber bullying
• Well Rounded Parenting with Self-Care - four-week program focusing on identifying harmful patterns and implementing healthy nutrition and lifestyle habits. Uses wellness perspectives to gain more insight into controlling everyday stressors and becoming a more well-rounded parent
• Smart Sense - six-week program focusing on awareness in making wiser and healthier choices in daily life activities. Topics covered include healthy eating/living, personal wellness, stress management, shopping on a budget, organizational/cleaning skills and communication
• Behavior at Its Best (2 to 10 years) - four-week program focusing on behavior management and relationship building. Topics covered include understanding the relationship between the parent and the child, repairing the relationship, understanding emerging behaviors and managing emotional regulation
• Scream Free Parenting - four-week program to educate parents to be aware of their behavior and how to calm their personal emotional reactions. Teaches parents how to create and enjoy calm, mutually respectful and loving relationships with their children.
• Raising Your Spirited Child - four-week program to educate parents on the temperamental traits of children who are more intense, sensitive, perceptive, persistent and energetic
• Making the Connection (Teens) - six-week program to educate parents on how to provide guidance and encourage independence in children 12-18 years.
• For the Sake of My Kids (Single and Co-parenting) - four-week program linked to separation and the impact on children and youth. Offers insight on how children and youth process separation and the effects negative dialogue between parents can have on self-esteem and self-worth. Learn a variety of personal coping methods to better prepare to be single parents and helpful tools to create a positive and mature relationship as a co-parent.
• Mindful Parenting - four-week program focusing on a mindful approach to discipline without yelling, shame, blame or pain. Promote a deeper understanding of parents themselves, their triggers and how to manage them. Learn how to connect with children in simple, playful ways.

• navigating the process of filing for bankruptcy
  
• drafting a practical proposal to creditors (consumer proposal)
  
• developing better budgeting and money management skills through credit counselling
  
• connecting with other debt consultants and professional advisors in situations where filing for bankruptcy or making a proposal are not suitable solutions

Assists individuals with a developmental disability to live independently in their chosen community. APS workers engage directly with the individual through a person-centered, supportive approach to do the following:

• Provide advocacy, crisis intervention, and case management to support independent living
• Develop, implement, and maintain an Individual Support Plan (ISP)
• Support the individual in identifying personal strengths and needs to support social inclusion
• Inform the individual of their legal rights
• Assist the individual in identifying and developing a network of informal supports within the community (e.g. mentors, friends, extended family, etc.)
• Provide voluntary trusteeship services to assist with budgeting for necessary expenditures (e.g. rent, food, clothing, etc.)

The APS workers collaborate with community-based partners to ensure the rights of individuals with a developmental disability are respected. Supports and advocacy are also provided to assist with legal or housing issues that may arise. In addition, APS workers provide service navigation to youth entering the adult developmental services sector.

Financial advice and assistance for those on a low or fixed income. Money management consisting of

• budget counselling
• advocacy
• debt negotiation
• debt repayment plans
• financial planning
• bills paid direct by budget manager
• income taxes (for clients only)

6 week group that integrates financial and emotional health, facilitated by experts in both areas.

Provides free credit counselling, budgeting assistance, and debt repayment options to Canadians struggling with financial hardship.

This service covers all aspects of debt assistance. Provides information on the options that are available and the process of personal bankruptcy. Provides financial counselling and guidance throughout the process.

Assists people in the community who are facing financial difficulty and are also committed to seeking long-term well-being and a better financial situation for themselves. Provides financial assistance while walking with program participants through regular one-on-one meetings where trained Barnabas Coaches from WMB Church work with participants to prepare realistic budgets, set goals, offer encouragement and pray.

Food bank, emergency transportation, support available for one-time emergency medicine costs, emergency accommodations in certain situations available for 1 to 2 nights maximum, vouchers for clothing and household items available for those in need, advocacy and resource referrals, support offered to send up to 2 children to Salvation Army summer camp each year. Those requiring OESP and Leap Program application assistance will be referred to Goderich office.

COVID-19 - 1st Come 1st Serve for Food Bank. If unable to pick up food due to illness, we will arrange for Red Cross to deliver to you but you MUST be home or you could loose your Red Cross delivery privileges.

People living outside Sarnia must contact their nearest Catholic Church or St. Vincent de Paul store in their community to request assistance.
