May also offer free Train Your Brain program. This play-based program helps kids in grades 3/4 improve their foundational math and reading skills for school success.

The Alternative and Continuing Education Program offers a range of programs and services for adult learners who want to complete their high school education or upgrade their courses in preparation for apprenticeships, college or university. Academic guidance counsellors are available to support learners in developing an individualized academic plan. Programs offered include:

Adult learning program in the completion of Grade 12, Ontario Secondary School Diploma

Prepares individuals to earn high school diploma, upgrade computer, math, writing and reading skills, and improve employability skills.

Also academic upgrading that helps individuals develop the necessary skills for entry into post-secondary education, apprenticeship training or employment.

Community-based services for people with developmental disabilities

Residential Supports - Group living accommodations, supported independent living, Family Home Share

Employment Services - Assists with obtaining and maintaining competitive employment

Continuing Education - Builds upon literacy and numeracy skills

Community Access Service - Links adults to community leisure and recreational activities Person Centered Planning - Creates life plans that promote a person's goals and dreams

Passport Funding - Administers individualized funds and schedules qualified and trained staff for person directed supports

Community Respite - Provides out of home caregiver relief to families

Family Home - allows people with developmental disabilities to share a community home while receiving the supports needed to be independent.

Leisure and Recreation - provides opportunities for people to participate in leisure and recreational activities in their community

Training Readiness

A counsellor will help the person to decide the starting point of their training, including:

• Free Assessment

• Together they develop a training plan to meet the individual's needs

• Immigrant Settlement Services

Learners get a practical approach to filling out application forms, researching job requirements, writing resumes, and follow up on job leads.

Literacy and basic skills training, including numeracy, digital, communication and interpersonal skills. Helps learners prepare for employment, apprenticeship, secondary-school credit, post-secondary education and greater independence.

Offers basic financial assistance to eligible community residents requiring basic needs and shelter

Monthly allowance based on family size, housing costs and income * monthly drug benefit card

Other services include:

• Community Start-Up Benefit - Help with housing or moving costs * covers costs related to starting a job or work placement
• Employment Start-Up Benefit - Covers costs related to starting a job or work placement
• Families with Children - Newborn child allowance, back to school allowance for dependent children, child care start-up costs, basic dental care for children
• Employment Assistance - Clients 18-65 years must participate in employment assistance activities unless they are living with a serious disability or illness or caring for preschool children
• Community Participation - Volunteer placements
• Job Search Programs - Based on skills, experience and circumstances
• Employment Placement - Job matching service
• Basic Education - Basic adult upgrading, high school upgrading, literacy and basic skills
• Job Skills Training - Development of skills for specific jobs, on-the-job training
• Supports to Self-Employment - Referrals to self-employment programs
• Discretionary Benefits - May include dentures, emergency dental services, eyeglasses, special diet allowance, health care supplies, medical transportation funds, prosthetic devices, funerals and burials

Programs may vary by city or municipality and may be available to non-Ontario Works recipients upon income assessment
