Provides short-term (30-60 days), co-ed shelter for young adults for up to 4 female residents and 5 males.

Huron Safe Homes for Youth is a free, voluntary, confidential service for youth (age sixteen to their eighteenth birthday) and their families/caregivers in Huron County.
Services Include:

• Crisis intervention and support services for youth and their families/caregivers
• Temporary shelter when youth has no other viable alternative
• Mediation (youth and parents/caregiver conflict)

Short- term counselling:

• Immediate and long-term planning
• Referral and advocacy
• Independent living / housing stability supports

Agency Goals:

• To support youth and their families/caregivers in developing healthy relationships
• To prevent and end youth homelessness
• To facilitate a healthy transition into adulthood
• To decrease the need for more expensive supports and services in the future

A 12 bed, safe, supervised transitional housing residence and also offers a recreation room, computer room, classroom, counselling rooms, full-time supervision with meals and basic needs provided.

• Residents will learn basic life skills, be referred to other agencies to meet individual needs, and will be encouraged to return to family, if possible.
• Target group is male youth, who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless and are in school or desire to return to school to complete their education, actively seeking employment or under employed.

Donations Accepted:

• Great need of underwear, pyjama bottoms, flip flops, non-skid slippers , and bus tickets
• Will also accept donations of canned goods, fresh fruit, vegetables, bread and dairy
• Monetary Donations appreciated

24-hour emergency shelter for homeless parents and their children. Rotholme can accommodate up to 20 families or 64 unique individuals.

Youth Homelessness Protocol - Participating agency for the Youth Homelessness Protocol, designed to assist youth ages 16-24 in Elgin County who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in finding a safe place to stay and to receive the supports needed to find safe long-term housing * call 211 to access the shelter

Junk Journaling - Junk Journaling is a program designed for girls from grade 6-12. No matter the grade, junk journaling is geared to students who want to explore their creative side, build self-confidence, learn the skill of collaboration, increase their ability to deal with their emotions, improve their literacy skills, have authentic connections, and improve their overall mental health to name a few of the benefits of this program.

Relevant Program - Exploring relevant topics geared for guys in grade 7-12.

Coordinates short-term emergency shelter for youth in a housing crisis. Staff provide support and assistance to youth who do not have a place to stay, arrange immediate shelter, make an appropriate future housing plan and link with other relevant community services.

Provides emergency or transitional shelter, support services to homeless and at-risk youth across Perth County. Youth are provided with basic needs, community referrals, life skills. Constant staff support to help them move forward and into a successful independent living situation. Serving Ages 16 - 24.

Program designed for children/adolescents who come from a home where their mother has been abused * weekly group offers participants the opportunity to talk about their feelings, learn how to express anger appropriately and improve self-esteem * a group for mothers is held concurrently which helps teach them how to support their child/teen * assistance with transportation and child care for siblings may be available * transportation can be coordinated. Free and confidential.

Prevention-based program providing Waterloo Region youth between 12 years of age and up to their 18th birthday

Every situation is different. Staff will talk with individuals to better understand their situation. Then staff will work with individuals to come up with a plan that is right for them. It could be helping to arrange a temporary stay with family or working with the landlord to prevent eviction. Staff can also connect people to agencies for more help to resolve issues with their housing.

If individuals do need a temporary shelter stay, staff can refer them to an agency for service.

Program provides a safe place to stay for young people who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness. Offers a safe and structured environment for young people between 15-17 years of age. The program will work with youth, their families and community supports to develop an individualized plan for success

Services offered:

• support planning and case management
• support with getting back into school, social assistance applications, reconnecting with family and more
• leisure activities and life skills coaching in group and individual settings
• referrals to transitional and supportive housing programs, employment, addictions and mental health services as well as community supports and services

Wyndham House Youth Shelter open 24 hours a day and all meals provided. Call for information.

A 14-bed facility providing temporary shelter for youth. A shelter overflow process exists; no one is turned away. Services include:

• laundry facilities, showers, meals
• referrals to community resources
• life skills training
• supportive guidance
• recreational activities
• assistance in finding permanent housing
• weekly access to Registered Nurse Practitioner
