LINC Assessment Centre -- Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) -- assessment of English language skills for settlement-based language training program * referral to community-based organization LINC programs for English as a second Language (ESL) classes * information and referral on settlement needs * funded by Canada Citizenship and Immigration

ESL offers English Program Literacy and Levels 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 classes. Skills learned will include: listening and speaking skills, reading skills, writing skills, computer skills leading to: High School Credit Courses, better employment opportunities, upgrading professional and trade courses, IELTS and other professional exams* Day and Evening Classes available

Free upgrading for adults who want to improve literacy, math, and/or computer skills * provides support in clarifying upgrading goals and developing a training plan * flexible attendance options and learners can start any time during the school year * Classes in London, St. Thomas, Tillsonburg, Ingersoll, Woodstock, Strathroy, Parkhill, and online night school. Upgrading classes assist with

• preparing for secondary credit or post-secondary education
• preparing to write the GED test
• preparing for the PSW (Personal Support Worker) program
• preparing for apprenticeship and/or employment

A computer lab with literacy and numeracy programs and on-site child care is available on site.

​LINC( English Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) and CLIC( Cours de langue française pour les immigrants au Canada)

The LINC program helps you develop your English language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) while familiarizing yourself with Canadian workplace and culture requirements. Levels 0 to 7 of the Canadian Language Benchmarks are offered. The objective is to be able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing, in various aspects of everyday life (i.e. employment, health, transportation, recreational activities, etc.).

The course is offered during the day from Monday to Thursday.

The CLIC program consists of French courses based on the Canada Language Benchmarks. The objective is to be able to communicate in French both verbally and in writing, in various aspects of everyday life (i.e. employment, health, transportation, recreational activities, etc.), using practical tasks as a starting point.

CLIC adapté and LINC adapté courses' are also offered online to those who are unable to join classes due to circumstances such as geographic location, employment or family obligations.

Offers basic financial assistance to eligible community residents requiring basic needs and shelter

Monthly allowance based on family size, housing costs and income * monthly drug benefit card

Other services include:

• Community Start-Up Benefit - Help with housing or moving costs * covers costs related to starting a job or work placement
• Employment Start-Up Benefit - Covers costs related to starting a job or work placement
• Families with Children - Newborn child allowance, back to school allowance for dependent children, child care start-up costs, basic dental care for children
• Employment Assistance - Clients 18-65 years must participate in employment assistance activities unless they are living with a serious disability or illness or caring for preschool children

Programs may vary by city or municipality and may be available to non-Ontario Works recipients upon income assessment

English as a Second Language Classes for adult newcomers to Canada (ages 18+).

Classes are offered virtually and in-person at some locations. Morning, afternoon and evening classes available.

Classes cover English reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and prepare newcomers to live and to work in Canada.

Free for those who meet the eligibility requirements.

Centres in Wingham, Exeter, Seaforth, Clinton, Goderich, Listowel and Stratford.

Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)
Provides language training at no cost to eligible adult learners

LINC -- Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) programs helps to learn the English language skills that are essential to social, economic, and cultural integration into Canadian society.

Workplace language and skill training program (ELT - Enhanced Language Training/IWORK - Immigrants With Occupation Related Knowlegde) is designed to equip newcomers/immigrants to Canada with the necessary skills to find and keep a job in Canada.

• 6 week part-time in-class training courses targeting various skill and occupation specific areas
• Work placements with local employers
• One-on-one employment coaching and access to a variety of employment supports and community resources
• Free childcare is available for children 3 months to 6 years of age during the day and 2.5 to 12 years of age in the evening
• Transportation assistance is available for eligible clients

English as a second language program for adult newcomers who are permanent residents and convention refugees. LSP teaches listening, speaking, reading and writing based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks.

• Care for Newcomer Children (CNC) - offered to parents enrolled in the program

The Language Assessment and Resource Centre

• Is the designated CLARS (Coordinated Language Assessment and Referral System) centre for Windsor, Leamington and Chatham-Kent.
• Assists clients in addressing their language needs by assessing their language skills.

Assessments

• Based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks and involve speaking, listening, reading and writing
• Assessments can take up to more than three hours

After the Assessment

• Results of the assessment will be explained.
• Options for language training within the region will be discussed including Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada(LINC), Enhanced Language Training (ELT) and/or English as a Second Language(ESL)

• each level focuses on providing language instruction in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing
• class instruction is based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks
• literacy to CLB Level 6
• childcare for Newcomer Children and transportation assistance available for eligible clients

Enhanced Language Training (ELT)

• workplace language training to internationally trained and/or newcomers and immigrants with related experience
• training and work-related terminology to assist with finding employment to match skills and qualifications

Courses to improve on English language

Provides American Sign Language (ASL) and English instruction to culturally Deaf, and hard of hearing adult newcomers to Canada * teaches daily life skills to help newcomers adapt to living in Canada
