Responsible for service system management for all early years and child care programs in the City and County of Peterborough.

Services include:

• fee subsidy assistance for low income families and children with special needs

Kawartha Youth Orchestra (KYO) is a community music and orchestra-training organization serving elementary through post-secondary-aged youth.

Operates two program streams:

The Orchestras - a fee-based orchestra-training program for instrumentalist aged 8-28 years:

• three-tiered program - beginning, intermediate and advanced,
• instruments - string, brass, woodwind and percussion.

Upbeat downtown - a safe place to be a child, to unwind after school with friends, grab a healthy snack, be part of a team, and be creative while learning to make music under the guidance of caring and professional music educators:

• fully-subsidized including instrument loan and program supplies for Peterborough children who face socio-economic and cultural barriers
• no prior music knowledge required
• learn the violin, play percussion instruments, sing, and participate in musical games and listening activities.

Licensed pre-school program tailored to the youngest students in the school community.

Offers a variety of learning opportunities in five teaching areas which encourage practical life activities, sensorial, language, mathematics, and cultural studies.

Goals:

• develop positive attitudes towards school
• encourage self-confidence
• assist in building concentration, curiosity, initiative and persistence
• foster inner security and order

Provide hot lunch as well as morning and afternoon snacks.

Care is available for the CASA One students one hour prior to the start of the school day and one hour after the end of the school day.

Licensed pre-school program tailored to the youngest students in the school community.

Accepts students into the program anytime throughout the year, provided there is space available on a three to five full days basis or half-days per week.

Program focuses on the development following the Montessori method of education with the main areas of focus being:

• practical life
• sensorial education
• cultural studies
• science instruction and exploration
• mathematics
• language arts
• arts (music and visual art)
• computer skills
• french
• monthly field trips and classroom guests enhance the students' educational and social experiences.

Offers outdoor play and naptime for children requiring a nap.

Afternoon snacks are provided while morning snacks are provided by a different student each day following a snack day calendar.

Provides an academic program through the montessori approach to eduction

• based upon the Province of Ontario's curriculum in the core subjects of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

Welcomes students from grade one to eight and features a low student-teacher ratio.

Operates over 35 different programs in the City and County of Peterborough, City of Kawartha Lakes, Durham Region, Haliburton County and Northumberland County for children from 6 weeks to 12 years

One day program from the Canada Safety Council will introduce and reinforce ideas to build confidence in young people who spend time at home alone. The program includes home and fire safety.
