Community mental health crisis response provides support and assistance to individuals 16 years and up. Offers initial support through local and toll-free phone lines.

Services include:

• telephone and/or mobile crisis intervention
• short-term case management
• short-term crisis/safe beds
• emotional support, information and referrals to other appropriate resources
• staff also specialize in serving people who have an intellectual disability or a concurrent disorder
• staff have access to a Behavioural Consultant and an Addiction Counselor

Police-based victim services program provides post-incident and long-term information, referral and support to victims of crime and tragic circumstances

• Mandated to respond to people victimized in: all crimes of violence, domestic incidents, break and enters and criminal harassment
• Services include information on the justice system, emotional support, liaison services, family court information and support, court support, information on community resources

Designed to be flexible and responsive to the needs of youth in moments of crisis

• initial assessment appointment set up within 24-72 hours after referral is made
• meetings conducted both with client and their family when appropriate
• the needs of the young person is determine at the first meeting and a plan of action is developed to meet those needs

Community Response Team Counsellor can meet up with youth in the community, at a school when possible or at our agency.

The team works closely with the hospital, area schools and community organizations.

Provides free and confidential medical treatment for sexual assault victims of all ages or genders and for individuals experiencing domestic violence (intimate partner abuse). Specially trained Registered Nurses are on-call 24 hours a day.

Services include:

• testing and prevention of sexually transmitted infections including HIV

Patients can decide if police are involved or not.

Victim Quick Response Program+ (VQRP+)
Assistance with emergency expenses related to the incident, including:

• home safety, accommodation, meals, transportation, basic necessities, dependent care costs, counselling, traditional Indigenous health services, cellular phones, vision care, dental care, aids for victims with disabilities, interpretation services, crime scene cleanup, government/medical documents and funeral expenses
• additional assistance for victims of human trafficking includes storage locker, tattoo removal, and treatment at a recovery facility
• no direct reimbursement to victims for support listed above
• financial support also available for victims who sustained serious physical injuries during a crime and for parents of child homicide victims and spouses of homicide victims

Program fosters improvements in the health and well being of Indigenous individuals, families and children. The focus is health promotion, illness prevention, and family violence prevention workshops.

The Community Mental Health Services crisis program operates out of the emergency department at Northumberland Hills Hospital and focuses on immediate, emotional distress.

• A crisis worker is available to assess needs and provide short-term intervention and follow-up care
• Crisis worker can put the client in touch with other professionals who will deal with all aspects of crisis

Office is open to staff, clients and essential visitors only and they will be permitted to enter if they are feeling well and do not have symptoms associated with COVID-19. All persons entering are required to wear a mask and should be prepared to participate in the COVID-19 screening process.
