Searching for Transitional Housing

Assists people with a history of chronic homelessness and complex needs to find and maintain housing in the community. Provides intensive case management.

In partnership withthe Government of Canada's RH-CHS Outreach Communities Initiative, the supportive housing program was developed to help foster a positive landlord-tenant relationship and create stability for people who have experienced homelessness

• leases a rental unit and supports an individual through an Occupancy Agreement until a stable housing situation has been established

Provides support in the first six months of tenancy to establish a pathway to maintaining stable housing which includes:

• financial support to get established
• community connections
• service navigation

• Provides accommodation with emphasis on job creation, job placement, contacts with agencies and community groups.
• Residents participate in cleaning and general maintenance of the residential property.

• 12 shelter beds include shelter, meals, showers, laundry and basic needs

Harrison House

• Co-ed supportive housing for people diagnosed with mental health issues who require various levels of support in order to learn independent living skills and/or maintain their independent living environment
• Support is flexible and geared towards the needs of the individual. Rent is geared-to-income

The Transitional Counsellor provides service to women living in the shelter and women in the community who have experienced family violence.

The program provides

• risk assessment and safety planning

• Support happens within a strength based approach.

Office is open to staff, clients and essential visitors only and they will be permitted to enter if they are feeling well and do not have symptoms associated with COVID-19. All persons entering are required to wear a mask and should be prepared to participate in the COVID-19 screening process.

Extrajudicial Measures Program community partnership to assist in the delivery of the Youth Criminal Justice Act

Clarington Youth Centres (Courtice, Bowmanville, Newcastle) teen drop-in program in Bowmanville * youth up to the age of 18, after school recreation space, skills development, community volunteer hours opportunities

Group Counselling Anger Management for adults and young adults * Dads Aiming for Direction and Support (D.A.D.S.) helps fathers gain skills they need to nurture their children * Active Parenting groups for parents of children 5-12 and teens, Cooperative Parenting and Divorce. Continuous intake except in July/August

Housing work with clients to find permanent, adequate and affordable housing * eviction prevention, landlord and tenant education * maintains a registry of landlords with rental space available * assistance with personal identification (ID)

Learning Alternatives
Non-credit upgrading program for adults who wish to improve reading, writing, math and computer skills in preparation for employment, apprenticeship, secondary, post-secondary or independence goals * one-to-one instruction is provided in a small group setting * offer flexible schedules and provide year round intake and assessment

Project X Change needle exchange program for intravenous drug users * old needles can be handed in for safe disposal * condom and safe sex information available * connections to rehab programs and counselling * Naloxone kits and nasal spray refills are now available for opioid overdose * PLEASE NOTE this program is NOT available on weekends

Public Speaking Presentations available to present to community groups, agencies, schools, media, service clubs, churches etc * topics include drugs and alcohol, suicide, sexual abuse, the prison system, violence, employment, housing issues * able to speak about any program the JHS delivers

Program providing transitional housing for homeless or at risk of homelessness. Rent will be charged acording to OW or ODSP rental allowances.

Individuals will be provided access to couselling and resources to help with final goal to access stable housing options.

Treatment Program designed for individuals with severe and/or chronic addiction problems. The program is a highly structured and intensive intervention that operates on a 21-day closed cycle. There is a dedicated aftercare component that virtually follows participants post completion on an intermittent schedule, over a 6 week period, to assist and support the individual transition from the structure of the program back into their daily lives.
Each 21-day cycle is specifically for women or men (no co-ed cycles). Participants have the option of sleeping overnight onsite for the 21-day cycle (residential stream) or returning home overnight (day-use stream).
There is a maximum of 10 clients per cycle (7 for the residential stream, 3 for the day-use stream).
Treatment participants are expected to attend all programming and participate in all activities. This includes activities such as daily chores, walks, meals, groups, individual sessions, and journals.

Housing programs include:

Supportive Housing & Homelessness Program offers assistance with finding safe, affordable housing and/or subsidies as needed. This is an internal referral program.

Housing Resource & Co-ordination program will assist individuals with a mental health concern review listings and provide support with landlords and the application processes. Subsidies available for those who qualify.

Short-Term Residential Crisis Service Program is in collaboration with the Crisis Intervention Centre and can assist with short-term crisis housing for a person with a mental illness who have come into contact with the law.

Group Home services are provided at 2 homes providing supportive programming for life skills, daily routines and healthy living, social and organized planning with the expectation of residents to participate.

Two transitional housing programs for youth

• one for youth aged 16-18 (Jacky's Place) and one for youth aged 19-24 (Whitby)
• clients can live at one of the properties for up to a year, paying nominal rent contribution, with the possibility of extension
• intensive case management and life skills training

24 Hour Crisis Support.

Domestic Abuse Shelter providing up to 6 week stay. Safety Plan assistance, referrals to support agencies, and legal supports.

CJH is a mask friendly space and believe in our service users ability to choose how best to protect themselves. We do ask that all who feel ill stay home to get the rest they need and protect the most vulnerable.

Regular Service
Offers a Residential Transitional Housing Program, which provides safe, affordable, furnished housing for women and their children. Includes individualized programs, supportive community, housing workers and psychotherapy. Aligning with those in our Transitional Housing program to conquer the challenges associated with their unique experience of homelessness and housing uncertainty. Transitional home is accessed through Coordinated Access only. CJH is not a shelter, and does not have units available outside of this system.
