CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS

Backpack Program

• age appropriate backpacks and school supplies are distributed, at no cost, in late August to early September.

After School Program

• neighborhood safe place for sports, recreation, character development, leisure and creative activities during the after school hours
• nutrition breaks served each day including hot meals five evenings per week
• homework helpers support children in grades one to eight
• enrichment classes in music, art, dance, reading and drama

Fitkidz

• variety of physical activities including performance arts and sports skills development
• offered to elementary school aged children

March Break Camp

• day camp for school aged children during the week of March Break

Sun Fun Camp

• summer day camp offered to school aged children through the months of July and August

Children's Winter Ski Program

• multiweek program that starts in January
• reasonable prices and ski equipment available for those who do not have/cannot rent

Seniors' Lunch and Leisure Activities

• seniors invited to enjoy nutritious, low cost lunches, companionship, outings and activities of interest

Children's Services Division

• plan and manage fee subsidy, wage subsidy, special needs resourcing, EarlyON Child and Family Centres, funding allocations and special grants for infrastructure improvements
• manages purchase of service agreements and quality assurance inspections for licensed child care
• assesses families for fee subsidy eligibility
• Behaviour Management services for licensed child care programs and families who have children 2-6 years with developmental disabilities
• directly operates seven early learning and child care centres and nursery school programs
• leadership role for Durham's early learning and care sector
