Meals on Wheels is still operating

Offers the following meal services:

• Operates Meals on Wheels in Mattawa
• Offers the Friday night Diners' Club in North Bay
• Offers monthly congregate dining in Castle Arms in North Bay

Hot & frozen meals available for both pick up and delivery to seniors and those experiencing health issues - especially after discharge from hospital, or who would be experiencing difficulty preparing meals for themselves. Available in all municipalities in East Parry Sound

Offers various services to seniors including the following:

Community Dining Program

• Offers one meal per week in their community
• Provides transportation if required, for social activity to clients who would not be able to attend without assistance

Emergency Response Systems

• Provides an electronic device in a client's home that enables clients to communicate in an emergency
• Provides a 24-hour service

Friendly Visiting

• Provides a check up call, personal or telephone contact to seniors living alone

Homemaking

• Assists with routine household activities such as light housekeeping, meal preparation and laundry

Meals on Wheels

• Delivers hot and frozen meals for lunch to individuals to assist in meeting their nutritional needs
• Provides social contact and a health and safety check of the client at the time of the meal delivery
• Provides one meal per week or up to 5 daily meals per week
• Accommodates special diets such as diabetic diet, food allergies and/or tolerances etc

Respite Service

• Provides in-home service to enable family and friends to have relief from their caregiving role and to help relieve stress placed on family relationships

Supportive Housing

• Provides designated housing for an average of 50 clients with the ability to expand as the need arises, and includes personal support, medications reminder, homemaking, meal preparation
• Provides 24-hour attendant service and emergency response service

Transportation

• Provides transportation to medical, dental, and vision appointments as well as to clinics and hospitals
• Volunteers assist individuals with entering and exiting the vehicle or building and with packages
• Recommends advance notice of 2 to 3 days for booking transportation

Grocery store with pharmacy.

Complimentary taxi ride home with in-store grocery purchases for in-town residents who do not have other means of transportation.

Community room available to rent - temporarily unavailable due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Support for older adults to helps them remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.

Friendly Visiting:
Provides social contact with client to develop a caring relationship

Telephone Reassurance:
Maintains an ongoing telephone link for security and social contact

Frozen Meals On Wheels Program: Available for anyone
Individual entrees are $6.25 and an individual dessert or soup is $1.60. Free weekly delivery in Huntsville. Orders must be placed on Mon. Arrangements can be made to pick up meals at the office Mon-Fri by calling ahead. Special diets are available on request.

Hot Meals On Wheels Program: Available for anyone
Entrees are $6 including soup/salad, entree, roll/muffin and dessert. Delivery available to anyone living within 10 km of Huntsville Hospital. Delivery Mon-Fri 12 noon-1 pm.

Transportation Service:
Helps seniors with no means of transport to medical appointments, drugstore, shopping, etc. There is a $10 round trip charge within Huntsville, longer distances costs to be determined through office.

Medical Appointments - Out of Area:
Provides transportation for seniors 60 and over, living in North Muskoka, to medical appointments, hospital procedures, rehabilitation, and alternative therapies.

Free income tax preparation:
Free Income Tax preparation can be arranged with a volunteer for those who meet eligibility criteria. For more details please call office.

• Operates a community-based food purchasing system that makes fresh fruits and vegetables available to community members (contents vary by season) for reasonable price
• Provides a choice of small or large good food box once per month
• Offers a variety of fruit and vegetables such as carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries and apples

NOTE: Pick-up location is at the Band Office within the Centre of Excellence but during Covid-19 only available via delivery to specified location

Provide meals for seniors or individuals 18 years of age and older who have an acute or chronic illness and/or have a physical disability or other needs.

Meals on Wheels

• hot meals delivered by volunteers, can include meals for low salt, low fat or diabetic diets or modified to accommodate most diets
• operates five days per week and is able to deliver to anyone living in West Parry Sound District.
• frozen meals may be delivered or picked up at the CSS office Mon-Fri

Lunch and Learn

• provides an opportunity to learn and socialize while enjoying a nutritious lunch
• takes place at the Foley Community Centre, 60 Rankin Lake Rd, Foley, ON P2A 0B2

Health services department of Moose Deer Point offering:

• cultural awareness sessions
• illness and injury prevention workshops
• health promotion and educational workshops on a variety of health issues such as cancer and Alzheimer's
• blood pressure screening and monitoring
• pre-natal screenings
• diabetes support group and foot care clinic
• heart health sessions
• mental health and wellness (individual and group counselling)
• recreational activities for school age children and seniors
• youth group
• meals on wheels
• healthy cooking classes
• youth group/counselling sessions

Nutritious chef-prepared meals delivered twice a week. Program is accommodating and flexible to meet the needs of clients. Clients requiring more than two meals per week can request additional meals that will be delivered on one of the scheduled delivery days.

Meals are freshly made, and consist of homemade soup (or salad), main dish and dessert delivered warm.

Regular Service
Health services department for Wahta Mohawk First Nations.

Services include:

• Homemaker services and Meals on Wheels program for seniors living in the community
• assistance setting up volunteer transportation to medical appointments
• community liaison for Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program through Health Canada (NIHB provides status Indians with medical coverage for a variety health services not covered under OHIP)
• information and referrals to counselling services, shelter's, children services, anger management courses and more
• various programs and events through out the year (ex. yoga, shopping trips, sporting events, Christmas dinners)
