Apprenticeship Scholarship
Awards a $1000 scholarship to individuals upon completion of academic upgrading

Employer Signing Bonus
Assists employers who hire and register youth who have left school and require upgrading to meet the registration standards for apprenticeship training

• Offers apprenticeship training programs that are 3-7 years in duration with three in-school sessions
• Individuals begin with a 52-week pre-apprenticeship program where they will be registered as a 1st year journeyman and placed with a licensed trades person/company

• General Carpenter
• Heavy Equipment Operator
• Native Residential Construction Worker
• Plumber
• Water and Waste Water Technician

All Apprenticeship programs are delivered in partnership with the Ontario College of Trades

Operates as a program under the Education and Training Branch

Provides a range of culturally appropriate programs and services for Métis people to enhance employability and related skills including:

• Apprenticeship support (financial and training assistance)
• Career counselling
• Employment readiness support and training
• Financial support/wage subsidies and opportunity through a number of programs which may vary by office locations; programs are listed on website
• Mobility assistance
• Self-employment coaching assistance such as business plan and accounting information and access to computers, photocopiers and other equipment
• Services for clients with disabilities

Offers registration and support to:

• new apprentices who have arranged a sponsoring employer or who have prior education and related work experience
• also offers consultation for sponsoring employers

Apprenticeship Scholarship

• $1,000 scholarship upon completion of academic upgrading, for registered apprentices younger than 25 years who left school before completing the necessary academic requirements for registering in a trade, who are committed to achieving the necessary academic requirements within one year, and who demonstrate an interest in the skilled trades

Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)

• School-to-work transition program offered through Ontario secondary schools
• Students earn cooperative education credits in grades 11 and 12 through work placements in skilled trades
• Interested full-time high school students 16 years and older entering Grade 11 should contact their guidance counsellor, co-op education teacher or the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program Coordinator for the local school board, or contact the local Apprenticeship Office

Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program

• Job skill development and trade readiness for unemployed individuals wanting careers in skilled trades
• Programs are at various community locations, and up to 52 weeks long including a minimum 8-12 week work placement
• Free, with costs covered for tuition, textbooks, safety equipment and tools

Helps potential entrants to the apprenticeship system develop their job skills and trade readiness so they will be prepared to find work as apprentices

• The Skills Blend Program
• The Skills Blend will maintain four lines of effort:

1. Enable Apprenticeship referrals across Ontario
2. Academic upgrading (in partnership with Fanshawe College) to meet the needs of the Skilled Trades
3. Support Basics of Supervising training for the construction industry
4. Identify homeless and at-risk Canadian Armed Forces Veterans and move them to independent living/apprenticeship referral

Training program

• 18 weeks of training at no cost
• 8 to 12 weeks of paid work placement

• First Aid and CPR-C, WHMIS, Working at Heights, Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps at no cost
• access to Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) portfolio review
