Provides affordable door to door transportation for seniors or those with a disability to help them with various activities such as grocery shopping, medical appointments and social outings

NOTE: Vehicles are not equipped to accommodate wheelchairs

Wheelchair accessible van, and volunteer drivers utilizing their own vehicles, provide transportation for seniors and persons with cognitive and/or physical disabilities, who are unable to drive themselves and have no access to transportation. Transportation to medical appointments is the first priority, however seniors are also able to complete errands such as grocery shopping, banking etc.

Community Support Services may be able to facilitate other special circumstances. These decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. Call main office for further information.

All transportation is coordinated through the main office.

Offers various services to seniors including the following:

Community Dining Program

• Offers one meal per week in their community
• Provides transportation if required, for social activity to clients who would not be able to attend without assistance

Emergency Response Systems

• Provides an electronic device in a client's home that enables clients to communicate in an emergency
• Provides a 24-hour service

Friendly Visiting

• Provides a check up call, personal or telephone contact to seniors living alone

Homemaking

• Assists with routine household activities such as light housekeeping, meal preparation and laundry

Meals on Wheels

• Delivers hot and frozen meals for lunch to individuals to assist in meeting their nutritional needs
• Provides social contact and a health and safety check of the client at the time of the meal delivery
• Provides one meal per week or up to 5 daily meals per week
• Accommodates special diets such as diabetic diet, food allergies and/or tolerances etc

Respite Service

• Provides in-home service to enable family and friends to have relief from their caregiving role and to help relieve stress placed on family relationships

Supportive Housing

• Provides designated housing for an average of 50 clients with the ability to expand as the need arises, and includes personal support, medications reminder, homemaking, meal preparation
• Provides 24-hour attendant service and emergency response service

Transportation

• Provides transportation to medical, dental, and vision appointments as well as to clinics and hospitals
• Volunteers assist individuals with entering and exiting the vehicle or building and with packages
• Recommends advance notice of 2 to 3 days for booking transportation

Support for older adults to helps them remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.

Friendly Visiting:
Provides social contact with client to develop a caring relationship

Telephone Reassurance:
Maintains an ongoing telephone link for security and social contact

Frozen Meals On Wheels Program: Available for anyone
Individual entrees are $6.25 and an individual dessert or soup is $1.60. Free weekly delivery in Huntsville. Orders must be placed on Mon. Arrangements can be made to pick up meals at the office Mon-Fri by calling ahead. Special diets are available on request.

Hot Meals On Wheels Program: Available for anyone
Entrees are $6 including soup/salad, entree, roll/muffin and dessert. Delivery available to anyone living within 10 km of Huntsville Hospital. Delivery Mon-Fri 12 noon-1 pm.

Transportation Service:
Helps seniors with no means of transport to medical appointments, drugstore, shopping, etc. There is a $10 round trip charge within Huntsville, longer distances costs to be determined through office.

Medical Appointments - Out of Area:
Provides transportation for seniors 60 and over, living in North Muskoka, to medical appointments, hospital procedures, rehabilitation, and alternative therapies.

Free income tax preparation:
Free Income Tax preparation can be arranged with a volunteer for those who meet eligibility criteria. For more details please call office.

Offers volunteer and private sector transportation for medical appointments, social activities and personal errands.

Will provide assistance as required by the client which may include:

• Confirmation calls to confirm appointment date, time and scheduling
• Escorted assistance to the appointment
• Check in at reception to confirm appointment time
• Assistance with shopping
• Transport of walkers and other mobility devices including wheelchairs
• A client travel companion is welcome (family, friend or caregiver)
• Other special services upon request

For medical appointments, will travel to Sudbury, North Bay, Barrie, Orillia, Toronto and other long distance locations.

All clients are required to schedule their trips in advance, two week advance notice preferred. No trip is guaranteed. Trips are booked on a first come, first served basis. A mileage compensation or trip fee applies to all transportation programs.

• Provides assistance to clients upon hospital discharge
• Partners with the Canadian Red Cross to offer services

Services can include any or all of the following:

• Travel with patient from the hospital/medical facility to home
• Prescription and medical supplies/equipment pick-up
• Grocery shopping
• In-home visual safety check
• Booking follow-up appointments/community support services
• Settling-in assistance such as light housekeeping, laundry, ordering Meals On Wheels etc

Non-essential transportation currently cancelled due to COVID-19 (until further notice)

Operates a door-to-door transit system for seniors, disabled and/or handicapped individuals

• Provides service for any trip purpose using a wheelchair accessible van
• Requires advance reservations and cancellations or additional fees may apply
• Transportation is offered within the local areas served and for out-of-town medical appointments

NOTE: Passengers requiring an assistant must provide their own but escort/companion can ride free of charge

Passenger services include motor-coaches, activity buses, mini-coaches, adult vans, school and wheelchair buses, limousines and classic vehicles, sedan and chauffeur services, as well as convention and meeting services and group tour planning

• services to Algonquin Park, Kee to Bala, Casino Rama and Pearson airport

Wheelchair accessible buses are available to charter and to take individuals to appointments. Call for availability and bookings. 3 wheelchair buses, 12 wheelchair spaces, spaces for 30 ambulatory individuals. Lift for ambulatory individuals with wheelchairs or walker.

Providing transportation for clients needing to attend medical appointments that have no other means of getting there.

• Trips may be local or long distance.
• Community Support Services Sprinter Handicapped Accessible Van provides transportation to people unable to transfer into a passenger vehicle for medical or other appointments both inside and outside of the County.
• Minimum of 4 business days notice is required to book transportation service.
• To utilize the sprinter handicapped accessible van, as much notice as is possible should be provided to try to entertain the request.
