Searching for Internationally-trained Professionals

• Functions as an initiative of Laurentian University that assists Northern Ontario employers with hiring internationally trained professionals (ITPs) residing in Ontario
• Provides an extensive database of pre-screened ITPs in various fields, such as but not limited to engineering, accounting, management, environmental sciences, and internet technicians (IT)
• Assists ITPs in securing a career in their field in Northern Ontario
• Helps ITPs acquire the information, training, and resources needed to be successful in securing a career

This program extends the Welcome Centre settlement services to newcomer clients living in Simcoe County. Services provided in the Welcome Centre system are mirrored and supplied to outreach locations through mobile delivery.

Assists individuals in gathering information and resources and provides support in a welcoming and culturally sensitive manner.

Clients are encouraged to develop a one-to-one trusting relationship with staff, while accessing all the services they require to help integrate economically and socially into their local communities.

Also supports volunteer led English Conversation Circles, where participants practice English skills and meet other newcomers in their community (at certain locations).

Core immigrant services include:

Serves clients by individual appointments at various locations and can deliver to other areas in Simcoe County throughout the week based on request.

English language assessment done in partnership with Achēv Language Services.

All services are currently being provided virtually.

Accreditation Qualifications and Information Services -- information and help for international professionals to develop plans to obtain professional recognition * one-on-one confidential interviews, group information sessions, individualized action plan,
cross-cultural information, referral to interpretation services or document translation

Strategic Consulting Services -- identify service gaps within the community and develop program responses to fill needs

• non-regulated occupation currently in demand, such as information technology, financial services

C-Women: Bridge for Immigrant Women Reskilling into IT Coding Professions

• for those who identify as women or non-binary who wish to enter the IT field with a minimum of two years work experience outside of Canada in any field and minimum of high school education
• 6-10 month program, length depending on specialization chosen
• consists of pre-program support, foundations and IT career planning, workplace communication skills, technical training on basics for coding & web design, tutoring, resilience and leadership, preparation for job search

Bridge to Media and Communications (BEMC)

• for internationally educated professionals with post-secondary training and at least two years experience outside of in media, communications, public relations, or related areas
• 6 month program including work placement
• consists of instruction on Canadian media landscape, workplace communication, supervised work placement and career coaching from an employment and placement counsellor

Bridge to Registration and Employment in Mental Health (BREM)

• for internationally trained professionals with post-secondary education in psychology or a related field (equivalent to 4 year bachelor degree), and with a minimum of two years of experience in psychotherapy, counselling or community mental health outside of Canada
• Employment Stream: 10-12 month full-time program, with supervised placement, mentoring and job search supports
• Registration Stream: 12-14 month full-time program, with academic curriculum, supervised placement, SEUS seminar (Safe and Effective Use of Self), small group clinical supervision, mentoring and job search supports

Bridge to Employment in Services for Immigrant Populations (BESIP)

• for those with international post-secondary education and a minimum of
  two years' work experience outside Canada who want to work in the human/social/community services sector
• six month program where participants develop an understanding of the issues faced by newcomers and immigrant clients, discover professional options to advance in their career, and have a work placement

• 21 week program for internationally trained IT professionals with education and experience in computer programming and software development; minimum language proficiency at Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7/8
• industry specific technical and communication skills training; career planning and individual job search support; connections to employers

IT Infrastructure Program:

• 15 week program for internationally trained immigrants and newcomers with education and experience in information technology, computer science or engineering (computer, electronics or electrical); minimum language proficiency at Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7/8
• industry-specific technical skills training, including computer networking, information security, installation and configuration of servers in a virtualized environment with an emphasis on operating systems; presentation skills
• individual career planning and job search assistance; recruitment events; connections to employers

Supply Chain Awareness Program and Employment (SCAPE):

• 12 week program for internationally trained individuals with education and experience in Supply Chain Management, Logistics or Purchasing; minimum language proficience at Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7/8
• industry-specific communication and technical skills training with focus on Ontario supply chain sector
• individual career planning and job search assistance; connections to employers

Interpreters, including interpreters for women who are victims of domestic violence and sexual violence, as well as those who have been sexually exploited through human trafficking

• does not grant equivalencies or assess credentials, or intervene on behalf of individuals

Low interest loans up to $15,000 to pay for the credentials, licensing, retraining or professional development that internationally trained professionals need to work in Canada
