Safe, short-term shelter, 24 hour phone support/ 24 hour staffing, child and youth programming, outreach support, support groups, assistance with navigating the legal system, accompaniment and advocacy, safety planning, risk assessment, practical needs assistance.

10 supportive transitional apartments for vulnerable women and children available.

Offers emergency shelter and assistance for women in crisis, abused women and their children. Services and programs are voluntary, free of charge and confidential.

• Strives to empower people who have been in trouble with the law a place to live and an opportunity to remove the stigma of being an ex-con through guidance, counseling, and understanding
• Provides a structured and supportive environment that assists residents with reintegrating into society
• Offers 24-hour supervision

Regular Service
The Community and Planning Services Department has responsibilities for Community Services including Social Assistance, Children's Services, Housing (including Affordable Housing Programs) and Seniors Programs and Services.

Social Assistance:
Ontario Works is a form of social assistance and helps people who are in financial need. View separate record here.

Housing Division:

• Case Managers work one-on-one with homeless individuals to secure housing.
• Transitional Housing (Alex's Place) provides safe, affordable and supportive housing on temporary basis for young people aged 16 to 24 that are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. See website for more information.
• Social Housing Program provides affordable rental housing for people whose income prevents them from finding adequate housing in the private rental market (through rent-geared-to-income or subsidies).
• Offers the Rent Supplement program to tenants providing eligible applicants with a monthly Rent Supplement that is paid directly to their landlord.
• Offers Gateway Homeownership Program (Forgivable loan program to assist with down payment of affordable housing).
• Offers Ontario Renovates Program (Program for low and modest income households that provides funding for necessary home repairs, home accessibility modifications for persons with disabilities and for the purchase and installation of energy-saving products).
• Offers Capital Incentive Funding for developers, builders and home owners toward new homes for sale or personal use.

Housing Support Fund:

• Offers one time assistance to avoid arrears, eviction or secure permanent housing.
• Utility and mortgage assistance may be available for heat, hydro, water, mortgage, utility deposits or other one-time or unusual costs - check I Need Help - Emergency Assistance and Homelessness webpage for more information.
• Has a homelessness community worker to assist individuals with housing information, eviction prevention, rent supplement, and housing allowance programs.

Children's Programs and Services:

• The District of Muskoka is responsible for Muskoka's Child Care system. Offers programs, subsidies and information for parents and child care providers. In addition to Licensed Child Care Centres, there are options for licensed home based child care through the Muskoka Home Child Care Agency or through YMCA Simcoe Muskoka.
• Offers subsidized child care assistance to working or in-school residents in the form of a fee subsidy.

Senior's Programs and Services:
The District of Muskoka's Seniors Programs and Services help support health and well-being, socialization, and community engagement for seniors in Muskoka. Provincially designated as a Senior's Mobile Active Living Centre, brings programming to various locations throughout Muskoka. Community Hubs
There are three Community Service Hubs located throughout Muskoka:

One of two shelters in Muskoka for abused women (with or without children). Chrysalis in Huntsville, 1-866-789-8488 or 705-789-8488 is the second location. 10 transitional apartments for women and their children in Huntsville.

Provides:

• Safe, short-term shelter
• 24 hour phone support/ 24 hour staffing
• Child and youth programming
• Outreach support
• Educational support groups for women
• Assistance with navigating the legal system
• Accompaniment and advocacy
• Safety planning
• Risk assessment
• Practical needs assistance

Provides a supported living environment with meals and assistance with daily living.

Provides for:

• financial assistance for eligible clients
• clothing
• medication and medical needs
• access to recreation and social activities
• transportation
• and other supports intended to promote recovery, mental health and well being.

Transitions homeless individuals or at risk of homelessness to become self sufficient and improve the quality of their lives through:

• housing
• connections support
• opportunities

Operates Hartog House, a 20 unit transitional housing complex

• provides temporary housing for up to four years.

Runs onsite programming to develop life skills, reduce isolation and build a sense of community.

Provides case managed support services to identify short and long-term goals with an aim at helping individuals to:

• transition to long-term and permanent housing
• self-sufficiency and independence

Voluntary, three-tier program providing short-term support for youth in need of a safe bed where their immediate basic needs can be met.

May include:

• short term emergency accommodation and support (up to seven days) designed to return youth to a stabilized family home or alternate living environment
• longer-term resource designed to provide transitional support towards independent living
• promotion of youth developing skill for healthy independent living

Offers a short term emergency 16 bed shelter for women and children leaving an abusive relationship.

• short term free emergency accommodations
• groups and one-to-one support
• safety planning
• education on abuse
• referrals, resources and guidance making informed choices
• emotional and educational support for parents and their children residing in the shelter

24 hour Crisis/ Support Line also available through text messaging and email:

• trained caseworkers listen, offer support, safety plan and refer to other services
• provide information and education
• all calls are confidential service does not subscribe to call display

COVID19 (October 2021): Remote services offered; when not possible one-on-one services may be provided with heightened precautions

Supporting women who have experienced abuse to transition to independent living:

• Assists with acquring housing, social housing or other accommodations, educational, employment and financial supports
• Assists women to plan and increase their safety and the safety of their children
• Support women to identify the supports, make goals and transition plans
• Service will respect a woman's right to make her own choices

A Bilingual Transitional Support Worker is available for clients requesting this service.

CJH is a mask friendly space and believe in our service users ability to choose how best to protect themselves. We do ask that all who feel ill stay home to get the rest they need and protect the most vulnerable.

Regular Service
Offers a Residential Transitional Housing Program, which provides safe, affordable, furnished housing for women and their children. Includes individualized programs, supportive community, housing workers and psychotherapy. Aligning with those in our Transitional Housing program to conquer the challenges associated with their unique experience of homelessness and housing uncertainty. Transitional home is accessed through Coordinated Access only. CJH is not a shelter, and does not have units available outside of this system.

Covid-19 Transitional housing program is still operational, intakes can be completed by phone and sent by email.
Indigenous resources provided:

• 6 housing units providing a safe, supportive and nurturing environment based on cultural values and beliefs
• Supportive residential housing, programs and services for Indigenous women at risk, in crisis or in transition, in order to build healthy, economically independent lives
• Initiatives that will assist and support vulnerable Indigenous women and their families to build lives free from violence; abuse; and poverty
  A holistic approach in providing initiatives that promote personal growth, training and education for the social and economic advancement of disadvantaged Indigenous women and their families
• Initiatives that will assist at risk Indigenous women on their journeys to achieving mental, emotional, spiritual and physical wellness

Provides temporary housing in one of 20 bachelor units for up to four years.

Helps individuals reach their goal of obtaining permanent housing.

This is not a program to assist people to find housing in the community.

A voluntary co-ed residential program for youth between the ages of 16 and 21 years old. Serves youth who are not able to live at home at this times for a variety of reasons.
