Short Description
The Academic Upgrading program provides upgrading courses to meet college admission requirements. Offer upgrading classes for Basic Computer Skills, Communications, Math, Biology and Chemistry. These courses are strictly used to meet admission requirements and are not credit courses. Courses are offered in both self-directed and teacher-led formats.
- Self-directed means that there is no specific start or end date. Students have the flexibility to complete their assignments and tests via EConestoga on their own time at a pace set by them. Self-directed courses can be completed as quickly or slowly as the student likes. It is recommended that at least a few months time is alloted for completion as the same amount of material is covered for both structure options. Self-directed courses can be started at any point throughout the year and students will still have access to an instructor for online zoom meetings if they require assistance with the material. Please note that math is currently only offered in self-directed format and self-directed courses do take a summer break for July and August.
- Teacher-led study means that there is a specific start and end date (e.g., May to Aug. or Sept. to Dec.). Students must be able to attend mandatory classes (either online over zoom or in-person on one of our campuses). Each class will have a three-hour duration broken into 2 hours of interactive learning and the final hour will be dedicated to open discussion, review, practice, and independent learning. When possible, teacher led classes are available during both day and evening to be flexible with the students own schedule
