1st Step is an assessment and treatment program for people who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis - an experience where they might have trouble telling the difference between what is real and what isn't.

The key to a successful recovery from psychosis is getting help fast. Psychosis has an impact on an individuals' life at home, school and work. To better understand one's needs, a comprehensive assessment is completed that will include a medical screening, a medical history and psychiatric interviews. Together with the individual, a treatment plan is developed. Treatment may include counselling, medication, group activities, family education and finding support for their day-to-day living. The goal is to support the individual and their family in finding balance in their life and recovery from psychosis.

Promotes and supports the mental well-being of Newcomers and aligns mental health services for refugees and persons with protected status who have resettled in the Region of Waterloo.

Multi-disciplinary team that provides intensive case management focusing on support, rehabilitation and treatment to individuals with severe and persistent mental health issues with a particular focus on treatment resistant schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and bipolarity.

• ACTT supports clients by meeting them where they are at to achieve their goals, improve their health and quality of life, and live as independently as possible according to their chosen best life.
• Team members' specialties include psychiatry, registered nursing, social work, occupational therapy, addictions, housing support and peer support.

Thresholds offers a range of mental health and addiction services, including supportive housing, crisis respite, individualized support programs, and more.

Residential program - available for adults experiencing serious and persistent mental health concerns. Housing options include congregate living with seven (7) other individuals and smaller shared living homes, Individuals receive ongoing support services that range from 24/7 on-site support to monthly contact.

Crisis Respite program - offers short-term stays, at no cost, in a residential setting to individuals 18 years of age and older who are experiencing a mental health and/or psychosocial crisis. There are six crisis beds available at the Kitchener location and 2 beds available in Guelph. Stays are typically a maximum of 5 days. Individuals are assessed through a telephone screening prior to admission.

Supportive Housing - Thresholds provides subsidized housing in Waterloo Region and Guelph-Wellington, through agency-owned properties and partnerships with private and non-profit sector landlords.

All-inclusive, self-help, peer support group for people challenged by mental illness and the families and friends that support them. Purposes include:

• to work with community partners
• meet and share experiences in support of one another
• inform and educate participants, mental health professionals, and the public
• eliminate discrimination and social stigma surrounding mental illness and mood disorders

Short-term, inpatient program to assess and stabilize individuals exhibiting life-threatening and / or self-injurious behaviour related to psychiatric illness or disorders.

Inpatient eating disorders program.
Flexible lengths of a stay including the Core Skills (9 weeks) and Restoration Streams (16 weeks).

Program focus is the management of symptoms related to Traumatic Stress Injury (TSI).

Patients complete a comprehensive assessment and are screened for TSI symptoms to clarify diagnoses, identify symptom clusters, inform a treatment plan, and set specific goals for recovery.

While treatment includes group psychotherapy, patients are also paired with a prime therapist and may engage in a Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Psycho Education.

Specific therapy programs include: TSICP - Concurrent Program; TSICP - Cornerstone Program, TSI - Guardians Program for First Responders, Military and Veterans.

Elective, group-based program specializing in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia and bipolar disorder.

Includes a comprehensive orientation and assessment period followed by an intensive treatment program. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is used extensively in conjunction with Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Behavioural Activation/Exposure Therapies. Biological interventions may also be used and include repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and pharmaceutical management.

Expressive therapy options including creative arts, horticulture, recreation and music are built into a well-rounded program schedule.

• clients actively in long-term services would not be arbitrarily discharged at age 65 but may benefit from a continuity of support with new linkages related to supports and services for seniors; clients agree to participate in services, as this program is voluntary
