Home delivered hot and frozen meals service

The Resource Centre continues to provide the supports to the vulnerable, isolated community members living in their catchment:

Services specific to COVID-19:

Frozen Meal delivery twice per week (Monday and Wednesday): call 613-591-3686 ext 333 or use Caredove to order: https://www.caredove.com/champlaincss. Orders must be in by Friday at 12 noon for Monday delivery, Monday at 12 noon for Wednesday delivery. This service is available to any vulnerable, isolated community members (no age restrictions). There is a fee associated with the cost of the meals; subsidies are available.

Grocery order delivery once per week (Monday): call 613-591-3686 ext 336 or send an email at info@wocrc.ca. Orders must be in by Thursday at 12 noon for delivery the following week. This service is available to any vulnerable, isolated community members (no age restrictions). Priority will be given to community members living in West Carleton. Delivery will be limited to 30 households/week. Payment will be made directly to the store for the grocery order; subsidies are available.

Virtual (video and phone) counselling and crisis intervention is available through our Counselling Services team. Services are available Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays until 4:30 pm and every Wednesday until 7:30 pm. Call us at 613-591-3686 x 269 or email us at intake@wocrc.ca

COVID-19: The Kanata Food Cupboard remains open serving the local Kanata community. Clients are asked to call 613-836-7847 Monday to Friday between 9am and 12pm (noon) to book an appointment for a hamper pickup or delivery. Do not leave a voicemail message to schedule an appointment. We are operating out of our warehouse location at 340 Legget Dr, Door #46.

Food Cupboard Services:

• Clients accessing the Kanata Food Cupboard receive both fresh food items (dairy, protein, fruit, and vegetables), and a fully customizable non-perishable food hamper (customization offered via online form). This allows everyone to choose the items best suited to their family; allotments are based on family size.
• Assistance with completing forms is available by phone for those without access.
• Assistance in French is available.
• Appointments are made for curbside pickup on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evening, as well as Tuesday afternoons.
• Deliveries are available Tuesday evenings. Please call Monday or Tuesday between 9am and 12pm (noon) to schedule a delivery.Vegetarian, vegan, Halal, and special diets (including gluten free) can be accommodated, provided that the items are available. Halal meats, as well as eggs and fish are always available as fresh food options.

All programs have been modified to operate within public health guidelines and subject to change depending on public health guidelines and measures to limit the impact of COVID-19 in our community.

Opération Nutrition+:

• Families pay $15 a month for a green-box containing fruits and vegetables
• the value of the green-box is approximately $75-85
• items added to the box based on family size
• additional items include bread, cheese, yogurt and milk to allow families to prepare lunches for their school-aged children
• powdered milk, cereal, and baby food, diapers, infant clothing will be offered to families with infants

Food Bank:

• Families in need can receive non-perishable items
• they must make an appointment and visit the office to do so

Holidays program:

• Food, free turkey and gift baskets available to registered families ONLY

Kosher meals on wheels

• frozen and fresh meals are delivered weekly

Transportation:

• transportation for medical appointments and shopping for seniors and adults with disabilities

Friendly Visiting:

• offers regular visits by volunteers to isolated seniors living at home

Teleshalom:

• Tele-assurance links a volunteer caller with a senior and adults with disabilities living alone by means of a daily telephone call
• if there is no answer, an emergency system ensures the client is not at risk

Community Chaplain:

• a Chaplain visit to Jewish seniors and palliative clients living in long-term care facilities

Home Visits and system navigation:

• social workers go to the senior's home to provide an assessment of needs and referrals to appropriate services

Caregiver Support:

• therapeutic counselling to a caregiver or a family member who has an emotional, behavioural, mental health, or severe stress problem that is impeding their ability to provide care and support for the client
• time-limited and goal-directed

Long-Distance Caregiver Support:

• guidance for adult children who live in other cities and have concerns for their Ottawa parents' well being or for those who have parents living outside of Ottawa

Claims Conference:

• compensation, home care and social work services available to Jewish victims of the Holocaust

COVID-19 (23 Aug 2021): the Muslim community has come together during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide relief to all residents of the Ottawa-Gatineau community * United Muslim Organization of Ottawa-Gatineau (UMOOG), Muslim Family Services of Ottawa (MSFO), Islamic Relief Canada, local youth groups, and other organizations have teamed up to collaborate in this effort

Programs include:

• help to those who are in social isolation who are unable to leave their homes to pick up groceries, medicine, and supplies, especially those who are elderly, at-risk and/or immunocompromised or single-parent families with children who are unable to leave their home at this time
• financial support to those who have lost their primary source of income with purchasing food kits, medicine, and supplies
• in-home elder care program for elders who are unable to take care of themselves and cannot leave their homes

Central services to any person in need upon request through referral to appropriate Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) conferences in Ottawa or to the SSVP Store

• accepts donations in money and in kind and provides receipts for income tax purposes
• coordinates Society's activities in the City of Ottawa
• volunteer opportunities available

Assistance available includes:
