Temporary income and employment assistance for low income individuals and families in immediate financial need. Requires a financial assessment to determine eligibility for services.

Employment Supports and Benefits

• caseworkers work closely with participants to develop individualized action plans that address unique needs

Additional employment supports include:

Geriatric Emergency Management -- Specialized emergency room care and follow-up support for older adults who may need in-home supports, other medical specialists, or community services

Psychiatric Emergency Services -- Specialized emergency room care and follow-up support for intense emotional distress * team of nurse case managers, psychiatrists, and residents works with community partners to reduce return visits to the emergency room * consults mental health agencies and family doctors regarding follow-up care

Sexual Assault and Partner Abuse Care Program -- Specialized emergency room care and confidential follow-up support for people who have been abused by an intimate partner, or have experienced sexual assault

Emergency medical service that provides pre-hospital and out-of-hospital emergency medical services, including emergency medical response, field triage and stabilization, and transport by ambulance to a hospital and between facilities.

EMS system partners include: Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service; Cambridge Central Ambulance Communications Centre; Centre for Paramedic Education and Research, Hamilton Health Sciences; Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health; 7 Tiered Fire Services, and local hospitals.

Clair Road Emergency Services Centre houses shared facilities for Police, Fire, EMS and the Collision Reporting Centre (CRC).

Access collaborative resources to reduce dependency on 911 and possible transports to the emergency department and remain well while living at home. Community Paramedics provides:

• home visits and remote care monitoring
• information and resources to best meet their needs and allow their clients to live well in their homes
• File of Life (fridge magnet) program - quick and easy access to basic medical information to first responders

A File of Life fridge magnet can be picked up at City Hall, Fire Stations, Paramedic Stations or please email communityparamedic@guelph.ca to request one.

Walk-in clinic

Offers medical care for non-life threatening conditions. Provides urgent care for individuals experiencing conditions and symptoms that do not require emergency care but cannot wait for an appointment with a family doctor.

Temporary financial assistance to eligible residents of Wellington County and the City of Guelph. Eligibility to receive social assistance is determined by the Ontario Works Act.

In addition to providing financial assistance through the Ontario Works program, the County of Wellington operates programs to assist low income individuals and families in immediate financial need. A financial assessment must be completed to determine eligibility for these services.

Additional supports include:

Addiction Services Initiative

• helps people on social assistance whose substance abuse makes it difficult for them to become or stay employed

Learning, Earning and Parenting Program (LEAP)

• assists parents 16-25 years of age to acquire education, parenting skills, and employment related skills

Funeral and Burials
May be able to help with cost of funeral, burial or cremation if the following criteria apply:

• resident in the County of Wellington / City of Guelph
• in receipt of Ontario Works assistance, or
• in receipt of Ontario Disability Support Program assistance, or
• low-income status

Canada Learning Bond (CLB)

• primary caregiver (person who is eligible to receive the Canada Child Benefit in the child's name) may apply for CLB on behalf of the child
• money is placed into a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) by the Government of Canada for an eligible child's education after high school

Interactive Voice Response (IVR) for Social Assistance:

• 1-800-808-2268 -- automated information and payment details, payment history, file status
• information and announcements about Ontario Works service not available to TTY users
• provides temporary financial assistance to those in need while they meet obligations to become and stay employed

Visitor restrictions are in place at Groves Memorial Community Hospital to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission. All visitors must be free of COVID-19 symptoms; have not have travelled outside of Canada in the previous 14 days or had contact with a sick person who has travelled; have not had close contact with a person who has/is suspected to have COVID-19; must wear a hospital-provided procedure mask during the visit; enter/exit through designated doors; adhere to infection control practices and wear the sticker identifying their successful screening process.


Patients attending the Emergency Department are limited to ONE support person.

Obstetrical patients are limited to ONE partner in care during their stay.

The Laurentian Walk-In Clinic operates as a walk in clinic in Kitchener. The clinic is located on Ottawa Street South at the Zehrs Superstore inside the Joe Fresh entrance.
