Searching for Young Parents

Supports teenagers who are pregnant or parenting

• Provides teen-specific prenatal and parenting education and resources within the community
• Provides classes where teen mothers/parents meet with peers to discuss parenting issues before and after the baby's birth
• Offers a nutritious meal to participants at each session
• Focus is to strengthen the abilities of parents and families to respond effectively to the needs of their children
• Accepts donations of new and gently used baby clothing and gear as well as financial support

Activities and session topics can include but are not limited to:

• Access to clothing, food and other personal items for moms and babies
• Bus tickets to attend all programs and prenatal medical appointments
• Child growth and development
• Cooking Club
• Fetal growth and development
• Parenting groups, workshops, and courses
• Playgroups within the program
• Teen pregnancy classes

Eating Disorders Program

• for children and youth 8-18 years
• diagnosis and treatment
• inpatient and outpatient programs
• family education

Substance Abuse Day Treatment Program and Outpatient Services

• harm reduction approach
• assessment, individual and group treatment
• day treatment with academic program
• parent support

Young Families Program

• health care for adolescent mothers and their children
• nutrition and feeding
• parenting education

SickKids Interprofessional Team for Youth (SITY)

• focuses on illness-specific issues for youth with chronic health conditions
• identification and reduction of high-risk health behaviours
• health care for marginalized and at-risk populations including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth, street-involved teens, and immigrant and newcomer adolescents
• advocacy
