An agency working to end interpersonal violence and abuse by supporting individuals and families who have experienced domestic violence, intimate partner violence, or gender-based violence through the provision of crisis intervention, emergency shelter, transitional support, children's programs, and counselling; and by fostering accountability for those who harm through intervention, counselling, public education, and systemic advocacy


Programs and services include:

• Crisis Line and Emergency Shelter - 33 emergency beds for abused and/or homeless women and children. Open 24/7 providing a safe haven, meals, support, and referrals to community resources

• Transitional Housing: Maria House - 8 residential units for longer-term residential stays for women and children in a setting that combines independent living with counselling and support

• Outreach- services for women wanting to make the transition to independent, violence-free living. Includes safety planning, accompaniment (i.e. to court, lawyer's office), home support, referrals and follow-up

• Counselling Services include:
  • Abuse Recovery Groups (for women 18+)
  • Caring Families (for high conflict families and their children)
  • Children Exposed to Domestic Violence (for children ages 6-16)
  • Mothers in Mind (for mothers and their children ages 0-5)
  • Challenge to Change ( PAR for men and women, SCRIBE for men only)

• Family Court Support - provide support and accompaniment for clients to family court, lawyers appointments and assist in navigating the Family Court system

• Violence Prevention and Community Outreach - presentations/seminars delivered to elementary students, secondary students, post-secondary institutions, service clubs, churches, businesses and other groups on such topics as domestic violence, teen dating violence, sexual harassment and healthy relationships

• Partner Assault Response (PAR) 12-week group education and counselling program on domestic violence and non-abusive ways of resolving conflict
• victims/partners of the offender provided with support including safety planning, referrals to community resources, and information on offender's progress

• Volunteer Program - volunteers play a major role in fundraising and assisting staff with programs and services. Positions include Shelter Assistant, Emergency Child care Provider, Volunteer Driver, Housing and Employment Assistant, Tutor, Special Events Volunteer, Receptionist. Skilled volunteers also offer services such as massage therapy, yoga, and hairdressing on a regular basis to residential clients

Immediate crisis telephone counselling

Counsellors are skilled in Brief Solution Focused Therapy and Crisis Intervention to provide the following:

• Crisis Outreach and Support Team (COAST) referrals
• connection to addiction services
• safety and crisis planning
• coping skills and self-soothing management
• referrals and connections to on-going service as required
• Naloxone kits and harm reduction supplies

Counselling, information, referrals, and advocacy support are available to survivors of all genders of child sexual abuse, incest, and sexual assault, as well as their support persons

Immediate support, as well as an accompaniment to hospital, police or court, is available through the 24-hour crisis and support line

Community education and presentations are available to community members and groups upon request

Housing program is for individuals who choose to live independently and violence-free. It offers services for maintenance, revitalization and enhancement for single-parent families in safe, temporary housing

Shelter program provides stabilization through a safe, homelike atmosphere for individuals and their children who are seeking safety from abuse and violence. Program provides in-house individual and group counselling

Provides services to individuals who are being abused, are abusive and/or at risk for abuse.

Outreach Services available:

• Intake - the first person a client will speak to, whether by the Crisis Line or walk-in. The Intake Worker will complete the Intake package with the client to determine the appropriate programs and services
• Transitional Support Services - provides supportive, individual long and short-term transitional planning, safety planning, advocacy and referral services to individuals who are seeking violence-free lives and a holistic well-being

Ganohkwasra provides services to individuals who are being abused, are abusive and/or at risk for abuse. Community Counselling offering the following services:

• Women's Program: Women's individual and/or group counselling, support advocacy, liaison for women living in high-risk situations
  
• Child & Youth Program: Children's individual and/or group counselling, support advocacy, liaison for children living in high-risk situations
  
• Youth Lodge: 6-bed co-ed residence for youth ages 12-18 experiencing serious difficulties in their lives
  
• Men's Program: Support and counselling available for men who have been abused or are abusive
  
• Emergency Shelter: 24-hour safe shelter for abused individuals and their children; provides in-house individual and group counselling
  
• Next Step Housing: Individuals and their children who require housing on reserve may stay up to 2 years Individual and group counselling supports are available
  
• Community Education: Available to present information to the community regarding the dynamics of abuse and its effects on individuals, families, and communities

Youth Lodge (Tsi Tionkwatention A'no:wara Rason:ne, a Mohawk word meaning My Home On Turtle Island)

• a co-ed residence for First Nations youth ages 12-18 experiencing serious difficulties in their lives
  
• provides a therapeutic approach intended to help participants to recognize their less effective behaviours and through self-evaluation, to learn to make more effective choices
  
• residents share in the daily upkeep of the lodge, attend school or a work/volunteer program, and participate in programming

Ratiweintehta's (They are Learning) Alternative Learning Classroom located at the Youth Lodge

• clients that are high school age and are no longer attending regular classes in a mainstream secondary school are eligible to attend the Section 23 classroom
  
• educational program is designed to address student's individual academic, social and emotional needs while obtaining high school credits

Direct and indirect services for children and youth experiencing mental health and addiction related difficulties

Children's Mental Health workers provide:

• initial response to individuals and families in crisis
• immediate support, rapid stabilization and relief of symptoms to support early identification and intervention
• follow-up support
• development of safety and crisis plans
• assess need for emergency medical and psychiatric services
• assist in the development, delivery and evaluation of community information and support sessions and workshops

Indigenous Child Welfare Prevention program offering individual, couple, family and group counselling, as well as a variety of social, recreational and leisure programs and seasonal special events.

Provides services for people who have experienced a mental health and/or addiction issue in Waterloo Region and Wellington County

An early intervention program that provides group supports for children who have witnessed woman abuse, by offering opportunities to share their feelings regarding the abuse and violence they have witnessed, in a creative and supportive environment.

Emergency crisis line and response team to assist individuals who have serious mental health issues and who are in crisis. Also supports caregivers in the management of acute mental health concerns and crisis.

Intake can be initiated by individuals directly or through their family members and caregivers. Referrals are accepted from community agencies and professionals.

If anyone is at immediate risk of serious harm, CALL 911 instead. This includes medical distress or injuries, violence/use of weapons, or any immediate threat to someone's physical safety.

A free anonymous phone service that people who use drugs can call if they are located within Ontario. The operator will stay on the phone with the caller while drugs are used, in the event that the operator receives no response after administration of narcotics the operator will call 911 and alert them to a possible
overdose at the location provided by the caller. Can also provide referrals to harm reduction products or assistance with home detoxing.

Women's Crisis Services of Waterloo Region operates two emergency shelters for abused women and their children: Anselma House in Kitchener (519) 742-5894 and Haven House in Cambridge (519) 653-2422 plus a regional Outreach program. They also offer transitional housing. Serve women age 16 plus, with or without their children.

Can be reached by text, instructions on website for how to erase browser history. Also offer translation services, both in person and on the phone.

This is a free service, both in shelter and outreach programs.

Crisis intervention service for anyone who is feeling that some support would be useful in a situation that they are struggling with

• provides telephone and/or face to face support for children, youth who may be experiencing a mental health crisis, and their families
  
• crisis is self-defined by the caller
  
• provides ongoing crisis follow-up, including connecting children, youth and families to other helpful community resources

Provides services for people who have experienced a mental health and/or addiction issue in Waterloo Region and Wellington County

Provides anonymous and confidential crisis support, counseling, safety planning, information, and referrals for women that have experienced abuse or violence.

Provides non-medical residential withdrawal management, 24-hour telephone crisis support, early treatment groups, a taking steps group, day and residential treatment, and aftercare for women with substance use issues. Part of the Shelter Health Network, Womankind Addiction Service was created in the amalgamation of Hamilton Women's Detox Centre and Mary Ellis House.

24 hour confidential crisis line offering support for individuals experiencing domestic violence. Can offer emergency counselling, crisis intervention, safety planning, and referral to community services or other emergency shelters.

Peer-run and peer-driven remote safe consumption line

• provides support to clients and mitigate risk of overdose fatalities
• provides stigma-free space
• dispatches emergency resources where required
• provides links to additional care, services and resources as required

The Salvation Army Crisis / Hope Line providing telephone and intervention to individuals experiencing crisis.

A free and confidential hotline that people with addictions can call to hear messages to help with cravings for alcohol, drugs, or gambling.
