The Good Food Box Program is a community based initiative with a mission to improve access to affordable and healthy food for all residents of the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Community Care's Community Support Services empower independent, active living for seniors and adults with special needs, helping them lead more healthy, socially engaged lives - and give caregivers much needed respite and support.

This is accomplished through a wide range of programs that provide:

• meals
• personal care
• caregiver support
• accessible transportation
• home making
• activities such as adult day programs and community dining events that help people stay connected in their community.

COVID19 Meals on Wheels continues with rigorous screening.

Volunteer drivers deliver meals to clients on a regular schedule, usually at noon hour, and for the supper hour in selected areas. Meals are prepared according to the Canada Food Guide with special diets such as no sugar, no salt, low fat and dental soft accommodated in some areas. Meals on Wheels allows individuals to live at home in their own community with physical and social support.
The Frozen Food program provides prepared frozen dinners to nutritionally at risk people. Entrees, soups and desserts are available to meet the individual's tastes and nutritional needs. The program provides increased service options for rural clients especially on weekends and holidays. Sound nutrition is essential for health maintenance and illness recovery. This program helps meet the needs of short-term acute care patients. Frozen meals can be purchased online at http://www.ccckl.ca/services/nutrition/frozen-meals/ or at one of our three Home Support Services office locations of Community Care: 71 Bolton Street, Bobcaygeon; 70 Murray Street, Fenelon Falls; and 34 Cambridge Street South, Lindsay or order by phone for home delivery in the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Community Care provides support and health services that promote the ability of older adults and special needs clients to remain as independent as possible in their own communities throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes. Community Care is a volunteer-based non-profit organization.

Support services offered include:

• adult day programs
• meals on wheels
• transportation for older adults and caregiver support

Community Health Centre offers health and wellness programs including primary care for people without a family doctor and a dental clinic for local residents.

Hospice Services provide palliative and grief support.

Some services extend into evenings and weekends call or email for information.

Helps ensure clients' nutritional needs are met while also providing social interaction and a safety check from the volunteers who make the deliveries.

Deliveries are available as hot meals or frozen entrees including soup, entrée, a bun and dessert. Frozen meals can also be picked up at the Community Care Service offices in Fenelon Falls and 34 Cambridge St. S. in Lindsay

Support to individuals and families living below the poverty line including

• subsidized fitness classes for overall wellness
• free programs for adult socialization
• informal counseling and referrals to available resources
• skill building and training experiences that provide improved employment opportunities

Provides affordable access to healthy food.

• Purchases food from stores, wholesalers and local farmers and sells on a sliding scale 'pay what you can' model
• JustFood Boxes are available to anyone, must be ordered in advance
• Offers small and large sizes. Fresh Produce Boxes are filled with a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables
