Public Health Unit

Services include:

• direct care in community clinics for vaccinations, pregnancy screening, dental services, and cervical screening
• one-on-one counselling to clients regarding safer sexual health, communicable diseases, quitting smoking, and more
• information to residents about how their choices affect their health
• assistance to help make workplaces safer
• inspection and prevention services to control sources of disease in the environment
• advocacy - together with schools, municipalities, employers, and community groups - for change in public policy that enhances the well-being and health of our community
• protection of the public by continually monitoring and reporting on the safety of water supplies, beaches, restaurants, and the general health of the population
• education to clients about such subjects as prenatal care, infant and child care, nutrition, safe food handling, health hazard prevention, and more

Offered as personal interest programs in which any individual can take up new skills or hobbies

• provide individuals with opportunities to connect with others and develop their interpersonal skills and abilities
• open to the public and military communities

Social Assistance - Financial and Employment assistance - programs to help people in temporary financial need find sustainable employment and achieve self-reliance through the provision of effective, integrated employment services and financial assistance

Four main program areas

• Licensed Child Care Centres (Picton & Massassauga-Rednersville Sites)
• Licensed Home Child Care, Licensed Middle Years (2 - 1/2 days per week Preschool & School Age) programs
• Family Resource Centre & Ontario Early Years Centre
• Child Care Fee Subsidy assistance is available for those who qualify

Two types of assistance for people in financial need: Financial assistance: income support to help with the costs of basic needs, like food, clothing and shelter health benefits for clients and their families Employment assistance: to help clients find, prepare for and keep a job may include workshops on resume writing and interviewing, job counselling, job-specific skills training and access to basic education

Our online prenatal program is free, and will provides information on:

Provides services to women and men who find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy.

• On-going support before and after delivery
• Christian-based post-abortion counselling
• Grandmother's Heart - a post natal service where a volunteer will come to your home to help you after you and your baby arrive home after delivery
• Baby care item exchange; clothing up to size two

• Mom's support group
• Hospitality Program * LEAD Program- a 6 week course to help encourage clients and assist them to be the Leader they have been called to be
• This program delves into personality, self-esteem, relationships, intimacy, boundaries, and communication
