Housing programs include:

Supportive Housing & Homelessness Program offers assistance with finding safe, affordable housing and/or subsidies as needed. This is an internal referral program.

Housing Resource & Co-ordination program will assist individuals with a mental health concern review listings and provide support with landlords and the application processes. Subsidies available for those who qualify.

Short-Term Residential Crisis Service Program is in collaboration with the Crisis Intervention Centre and can assist with short-term crisis housing for a person with a mental illness who have come into contact with the law.

Group Home services are provided at 2 homes providing supportive programming for life skills, daily routines and healthy living, social and organized planning with the expectation of residents to participate.

Connects individuals to community health care services:

• information and referral for health services at www.southeasthealthline.ca or by telephone
• coordinates professional home health services and personal care support
• when needed, will connect individuals with organizations to better meet their needs
• if unable to live safely at home with any combination of community services helps investigate living alternatives such as supportive residential options, retirement homes, long term care homes, convalescent and respite care
• access point to Long-term Care Home admission
• Care Connectors help people without family physicians obtain a family health care provider

Group of dedicated volunteers working at the local level to end domestic and sexual violence for victims of partner abuse and/or sexual violence, their children, their family members, and agencies that work with perpetrators. Some of the sectors represented on our committee are law enforcement and justice, shelter and housing, health, and counselling support.

Housing Security: The Help Centre supports clients with a full time Housing Support Worker and part-time Landlord Liaison. For those more self-sufficient, up-to-date Northumberland housing listings are available by email, website and community agencies.

• Housing Support Worker assists with: housing search, arranging apartment viewings, completing rental applications, as well as Rent-Gear to Income application, review personal budgets and hold a 3 months follow up to address needs.
• Landlord Liaison builds strong and trustworthy relationships with local landlords.
• The purpose of these 2 positions is to enhance successful tenancies.

Senior Service Help Program: this program provides low-income seniors and their families with help to manage their daily lives.

• The Seniors' Service Helper assists with accessing resources and community services, reviewing or creating a budget, planning meals and grocery shopping, downsizing living arrangements and attending appointments and meetings.
• These services specifically designed for seniors help to eliminate isolation and allow them to stay safely in their homes longer.

The Help Centre delivers a wide variety of services and programs that are not addressed by other government or social service agencies.

THC assists Northumberland low-income residents with:

• Navigating through the social service system
• Completing government forms
• Advocating with other community agencies and organizations
• Money Management (budgeting and financial literacy)
• Helping with the preparation of income tax returns
• Meal planning and grocery shopping assistance, senior check in for seniors
• Providing one-on-one tutoring to residents who would like to improve their language skills
• Providing English as a Second Language classes for newcomers
• Drop off location for translations (any language)
• Assisting through financial grants or advocating with the utility company
• Free photocopying and faxing
• Providing information and referrals
• Distributing back packs for kids and food hampers for families
• Supporting clients to find affordable housing
