Emergency residence with 27 beds for women and their children who are experiencing abuse in their significant relationships, residential services include:

Winter Sponsorship Program

• Matches families staying at the shelter and those families that access outreach services with individuals or businesses, who would like to adopt a family in need and provide a Christmas of gifts, gift cards and food gift certificate/food items

Regular Service
Focuses on Indigenous men and male youth who are committed to ending violence against Indigenous women and girls

• promotes understanding and responsibilities of traditional roles to resolve trauma and encourage overall well being and community wellness
• includes 1:1 peer counselling and group activities

COVID-19 Response
Beginning July 4, 2022, in-person and virtual/phone counselling will be offered to current clients. Groups and workshops will work within the hybrid model and be available in-person and virtually, based on registration. Drop-In groups will be virtual in July and begin in-person in August.

Beginning September 6, 2022, 100% of counselling sessions to be actively offered in-person. Virtual/phone appointments still accepted based on client's needs. Groups and workshops will continue with a hybrid model, based on registration. Drop-In group will continue to be 100% in-person.

People visiting the space are currently required to wear a mask, and if not, to maintain social distancing. All staff are required to wear a mask when they are in common areas. All women entering the space will be asked to complete COVID-19 screening questions. Visitors to the space who are displaying two of any of the prominent COVID-19 symptoms will not be permitted.

Regular Service
Provides free and confidential services for women 16 years of age and older, throughout Simcoe County, who have experienced sexual violence at any time in their lives.

Services include:

• a 24 hour telephone crisis line
• individual counselling and support groups
• court and hospital accompaniment
• legal support, advocacy, information, and referrals
• public education to end violence against women in our community

Partner Abuse Program

• Information, support, and individual and group counselling for women who have experienced abuse in a partner relationship
• program helps women plan for safety, decrease isolation and increase self-confidence and assertiveness
• program is offered in various locations throughout Simcoe County, call for information

Presentations are done in person or virtually on consent, healthy relationships, digital abuse, gender, and self-esteem, and
'rape culture'.

• FREE clothing and household items
• accepts donations of clothing, small household items, educational supplies as well as financial donations to go toward programs

Emergency shelter for abused women and children in crisis situations and fleeing abuse. Offers:

• 24-hour crisis line providing counselling and information

• Public education presentations are available (ext. 224)
• Information and referral to other services

Provides a safe, private, confidential place with specially trained nurses and doctors providing care and treatment to sexual assault victims within 5 days of a sexual assault (some evidence collection may be possible for up to 12 days after the assault).

Care and Treatment Options are offered for each victim to choose from including:

• emotional support
• physical exam
• treatment of injuries
• treatment for sexually transmitted diseases
• pregnancy prevention
• collection of forensic evidence
• telephone follow-up call within 72 hours
• referral to community services and resources for sexual assault
• pediatric day clinic for non-emergent visits outside of 72 hours post assault

Provides confidential care and treatment by specialized nurses sensitive to the need of domestic assault victims who have recently experienced a domestic assault.

Care and treatment options are offered for each victim including:

• medical care and treatment of injuries
• photographs and documentation of injuries for use as court evidence
• safety planning
• risk assessment
• referral to community services and resources for domestic violence
• followup telephone calls and visits are also offered

Covid-19 Transitional housing program is still operational, intakes can be completed by phone and sent by email.
Indigenous resources provided:

• 6 housing units providing a safe, supportive and nurturing environment based on cultural values and beliefs
• Supportive residential housing, programs and services for Indigenous women at risk, in crisis or in transition, in order to build healthy, economically independent lives
• Initiatives that will assist and support vulnerable Indigenous women and their families to build lives free from violence; abuse; and poverty
  A holistic approach in providing initiatives that promote personal growth, training and education for the social and economic advancement of disadvantaged Indigenous women and their families
• Initiatives that will assist at risk Indigenous women on their journeys to achieving mental, emotional, spiritual and physical wellness

Green Haven Shelter is a safe alternative to an abusive home.
Trained staff are available 24/7. Safety and confidentiality are key priorities. Information on options, rights, resources, and referrals to services that best meet clients needs will be provided. These could include legal, financial, housing and employment issues. Concerns about the impact of exposure to violence and the effect of trauma on both children and women can be explored.
