Financial assistance for home repairs of low to moderate households including home repair deficiencies, accessibility upgrades for persons with disabilities. Assistance in form of forgivable loan up to $15,000 for essential home repairs, including up to $5,000 in the form of a grant for accessibility modifications. Loans for home repairs and accessibility modifications are forgiven over a 10 year period.

Eligible repairs could include the following:

• building exterior including roofs, walls or foundations
• doors and windows
• plumbing, septic systems
• fire safety
• electrical systems
• heating systems
• mould remediation

Accessibility modifications include but are not limited to:

• ramps
• handrails
• chair and bath lifts
• height adjustments to countertops
• cues for doorbells/fire alarms
• bathroom renovations

Soft costs deemed reasonable by the County of Simcoe and that are agreed to by the Province of Ontario may be eligible expenses. Examples include, but are not limited to:

• Labour and applicable taxes
• Building permits
• Certificates
• Appraisal, consultant, inspection fees
• Drawings and specifications
• Legal fees up to a maximum of $1,000

Program funds projects that incorporate accessible, adaptable and inclusive designs, which allow seniors to continue to live independently in their communities for as long as possible.

Grant amounts will be distributed based on the number of applications received and ability to meet funding criteria.

Engage skilled volunteers to design and build custom assistive devices for people with disabilities

• provide increased access within households - kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms - and other environments, such as vehicles or places of business
• volunteer engineers and technicians work one-on-one with people who have a specific need that cannot be met by commercial assistive devices

Referrals to local services to provide maintenance services such as snow removal, lawn maintenance, fall clean up, spring clean-up, eavestrough cleaning and exterior window cleaning * program provides adaptation services within the home once a free in-home safety assessment is completed * minor handyman repairs can be provide if materials are provided

The County of Dufferin Ontario Renovates program is designed to provide moderate income households, with an interest free loan to assist with necessary home repairs.

Funding is subject to availability

Financial assistance for assistive devices -- subsidizes mobility equipment, ramps, tub transfer benches, wheelchairs (both manual and electric), grab bars, seat cushions, commodes, beds, transfer boards, bath chairs, computer software

Subsidized gym memberships -- for persons with disabilities

Accessible gym equipment-- funded by RH Mobility and housed at Ed Sackfield Fitness Centre

Community development -- works with other organizations to foster inclusion and create new programs and events for persons with disabilities

Certified Relocation and Transitions Specialists (CRTS) and Certified Professional Consultants in Aging (CPCA) provide services based on individual needs to assist older adults with the physical and emotional stress in moving or to help individuals plan and prepare for changes to remain in their homes.

Services include:

• home consultation, assessment and moving proposal
• moving schedule and assistance in packing, unpacking and settling in
• sale of estate items, disbursement of heirlooms to family/friends and donation or disposal of unwanted items
• age in place services - provide or arrange services to live at home independently and safely for as long as possible

A program for low and modest income households that provides funding for necessary home modification including:

Volunteers build custom-designed solutions and modification to help meet the daily needs of people with mobility issues and to maintain independence to the greatest extent possible. Projects are taken on if there is no commercial solution available or the cost of a commercial solution is prohibitive.

March of Dimes Canada's Supportive Housing Programs: provides scheduled and unscheduled service to people with disabilities in their own apartments:

• non-medical assistance provided for activities of daily living in the home, such as dressing, bathing, eating, and helping with range of motion
• also assists individuals requiring more complex supports that may include g-tube feeding, tracheotomy supports as well as other activities of daily living.

Administers rent geared to income (RGI) housing - Rental amounts calculated on a scale that is geared to gross household income. Waiting lists are based on date of application. Victims of domestic violence are eligible for special priority status which allows applicants to be granted priority on RGI waiting lists.

Ontario Renovates is a component of the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative program and is being delivered by the Region of Waterloo on behalf of the Provincial government.

One section of the program provides qualified low to moderate-income households with forgivable loans to assist with housing repairs as well as housing modifications to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities.

The other section of the program provides a forgivable loan, to homeowners, to assist with the cost of building a legal secondary apartment suite in their home, and renting it at an affordable rental rate to qualified tenants.
