211ontario.ca Website Wins Microsoft Canada Citizenship and Community Award

MISSISSAUGA, 2017 – Microsoft Canada has announced that Ontario 211 Services, in partnership with BDO IT Solutions, are the 2017 Citizen and Community Global Impact Award Winners. The award recognizes solutions that improve the communities in which we live. Microsoft worked closely with technology partner, BDO, on tailoring Ontario 211’s online service to make finding community and social services easier for Ontario residents. This innovative solution is a key component of Ontario 211’s Technology Framework and was funded by the Government of Ontario.

The awards took place on July 9 in Washington DC as part of Inspire, a worldwide conference that celebrates outstanding achievement across Microsoft’s community of partners, system integrators and service providers who are committed to the pursuit of quality and innovation.

In 2016, Ontario 211 engaged BDO IT Solutions to create a cost-effective, web-enabled solution that was the culmination of a two-year strategy to transform ON211’s online presence, redefining the brand. BDO worked closely with Ontario 211 Services to develop this award-winning service on Microsoft’s technologies and implement in the Microsoft cloud, Azure.

“The Azure platform helped us modernize the online search experience on www.211ontario.ca, making it even easier for people in Ontario to find the help they need. The mobile first design allows users to access information on more than 60,000 community, health and social programs from any device, and enables external parties such as municipalities to embed the 211 search technology into their own websites and applications – at no cost,” said Karen Milligan, Executive Director, Ontario 211 Services. “This year we will launch an API using the Azure platform to allow human service organizations to create custom portals for their local needs – again with the goal of increasing access to resources.”

“In this mobile-first, cloud-first era it’s an exciting time to be a Microsoft partner in Canada,” said BDO Technology Partner Daryl Senick “We were honoured to be chosen as one of the finalists, and winner, for Microsoft Canada’s IMPACT Awards; recognized for our accomplishments within the Canadian Partner community, and specifically the 211ontario.ca Search Portal.”

The 2017 categories for IMPACT Awards reflect areas in which Microsoft is growing and transforming. All categories are very competitive and finalists nominated have shown a proven commitment to Microsoft by delivering outstanding performances. Congratulations to all IMPACT Award Finalists and Winners. For more information on Inspire please visit: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/sites/impact-awards/default.aspx
